Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you today this stunning
1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL. This Galaxie combines the eye-catching
style of 1962 with many tasteful modifications and modern upgrades.
Originally a Sandshell Beige car with a beige interior, this Ford
now wears a deep and glossy two-tone paint job with black on the
bottom and burnt orange on the upper portion. Though there are some
very minor imperfections, the paint is exceptionally nice and the
color combo is a show-stopper! Up front, the orange hood sports a
risen center spine, a colorful Ford crest badge at the front, and
chrome trim on the lip that continues around to the sides of the
car to become part of the body side molding. It's this molding
strip that separates the paint colors. The rectangular egg-crate
grille with dual side-by-side headlights has been painted black in
keeping with the color separation on the body. Beneath the grille
is a gleaming chrome bumper with integrated turn signal indicators.
Adding to the cool front-end look are chrome spear ornaments atop
each fender. Moving around the side, you'll see the copious amounts
of chrome and brightwork that set the 500XL apart from lower-tier
models. The aforementioned 3-piece body side molding runs the
length of the car, resolving at the rear in a spear form with a
"Galaxie 500XL" badge beneath. Adding to the sparkle are wheel lip
and rocker molding, bright window trim, drip rails, sail panel trim
and badging, dual side mirrors, and door handles. Not to be missed
are the cool "427" Fender badges that let you know that a beast is
lurking beneath the hood. The wheel and tire combination is a
perfect complement to this Galaxie with grey Billet Specialties
5-spoke wheels all wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires.
Peek through the spokes and find that all four corners have been
upgraded with black Wilwood calipers and slotted rotors. The stance
of this car is completely up to you, courtesy of a top-notch VU4
Accuair system (and Fox Ridetech shocks!) that lets you adjust ride
height at any time with a hand-held controller - another excellent
upgrade! Around the back, you'll find the large round iconic Ford
taillights, a decklid that mimics the shape of the hood, another
mirror-finish chrome bumper, and a decorative trim panel that runs
between the lights and features a gas-fill door at the center.
"GALAXIE" lettering runs across the lip of the trunk and a "500XL"
badge adorns the gas door. The undercarriage of the car is every
bit as nice as the topside, with rock-solid floorplans, a newer gas
tank, newer brake lines, newer exhaust with cut-outs and Flowmaster
mufflers, and a Flaming River rack pinion up front.
Lift the hood to reveal a tidy black engine bay that you'll be
proud to show off at any car show. This Galaxie was originally
powered by a 352ci V-8 but that engine has been upgraded to an
impressive 427ci side-oiler V-8! This powerhouse is topped off with
an aluminum intake, 3 2-barrel carburetors, finned black valve
covers with 427 call-outs, and a finned black oval air cleaner to
match. The big V-8 is mated up to a Ford C6 3-speed automatic
transmission - a perfect pairing that puts the power to the rear
wheels via a 9" rear end with freeway-friendly 3.08:1 positraction
gears. Other highlights under the hood include power steering with
a remote aluminum reservoir, a chrome dual reservoir for the manual
4-wheel disc brakes, an Edelbrock water pump, a working A/C system,
and headers that lead back to the aggressive-sounding exhaust.
Swing open the driver's door and the courtesy lights illuminate a
jaw-droppingly nice interior that combines original style and
modern touches. The black vinyl door panels are in good condition
and are similar to OEM style but without carpet on the lower
section and a little less bright trim. A bright sill plate leads to
a high-quality tan carpet that welcomes you inside. The front
bucket and rear bench seats are freshly re-covered with black vinyl
in a style very similar to the original. Between the front buckets
is an orange-painted center console with an armrest/storage box, a
switch for the exhaust cut-outs, a bright chrome ribbed shift
plate, and a shifter for the automatic transmission. In the storage
box is a mounted Custom Autosound head unit (and matching remote)
and the hand-held controller for the Accuair system. The stereo
sounds great as it plays through speakers in the kick panels and
rear package tray as well as an Alpine sub-woofer mounted in a box
in the trunk. The orange-painted steel dash is topped in the center
with a matching-color aftermarket gauge cluster pod with volt, oil,
and temp gauges from Autogage. The dash offers quite a bit of
bright trim that really stands out with the orange background. The
factory speedometer and fuel gauge both work, but the temp gauge
and analog clock do not. The odometer reads 3,312 non-actual miles.
On the dash are also controls for the lights, working wipers, and
fresh air vents. Where the radio originally resided is now a delete
plate. Mounted beneath the dash is a chrome-trimmed vintage-style
A/C unit that cranks out cold air with a strong fan on demand. The
driver is treated to an aftermarket 4-spoke leather-wrapped
steering wheel with a working horn button on a tilt column. Ahead
of the front passenger is a glovebox with bright "Galaxie 500XL"
badging on the door and a reproduction owner's manual and Accuair
instructions inside. Underfoot are tan carpeted floormats with
"427" call-outs and overhead is a tight white perforated vinyl
headliner. Back in the trunk are a nice vinyl mat, a good-quality
car cover, 2 fire extinguishers, the sub-woofer box, and the
Accuair system.
