carpeting and Black convertible top, Concours restored, Cadillac
331 cu. in. OHV V8, Uprated to 5-speed manual, Superb history -
provenance from new.
Sydney Allard produced several models prior to the K3 Roadster, but
the K3 Roadster is undoubtedly the most rare and in most people
opinions the best Allard ever produced with only 63 having been
produced. Zora Duntov of GM fame and specifically known for saving
the Corvette was a technical advisor and works driver for Allard
prior to General Motors. The K3 was produced with performance in
mind from its inception.
This K3 was ordered for the American market and first delivered to
well-known Los Angeles sports car dealer, Noel Kirk Motors,
Hollywood, California. As per factory records, the original color
combination was Blue/Blue. Once delivered to Noel Motors, this K3
had its Cadillac 331 cubic-inch V8 engine installed along with its
manual gearbox.
First owner was a Mr. Robert Downey who worked at the time for
Lockheed Aerospace employee. The K3 remained in California for much
of its life. In 1965 the K3 found itself in new ownership with Mr.
L. Macomber of El Cajon, California. It would remain in the
Macomber family through 2007 and had along the way been color
changed to Red.
Circa 2011, this Allard K3 found its next new home on the East
Coast and Hadley, Massachusetts. It was given to well-known and
respected restorer, Mike DiCola who's Allard restorations have
adorned the Pebble Beach Concours lawn. The goal, another DiCola
nut and bolt, concours restoration. Completed in 2016, this K3 was
now finished in its current color combination of British Racing
Green/Oxblood. The K3 was then used for various well-known vintage
rallies-tours.
It more recent ownership, this K3 has been updated with
period-correct Lucas fog lights, roll-up windows, a 5-speed gearbox
for improved high-speed touring-cruising, it has received an
Alternator conversion and finally a Front disc brake conversion
which in our opinion totally transformed and enhances the driving
experience. Great to have the power of a Cadillac V8, better yet to
be able to stop quickly and efficiently when need be. To date, this
K3 has proven itself over several thousands of miles as a reliable,
comfortable and fast vintage motorcar having been used on
prestigious rallies such as the Colorado Grand, California Mille,
Going to the Sun Rally, the 2019 Pebble Beach Tour D'Elegance and
most recently the Copperstate 1000.
According to the Allard Register, approximately 46 K3 Tourings are
still known to exist. Included with this K3 Roadster are its
records-history, spare wheel, jack and hammer. It is without a
doubt one of the finest examples of this model available.
