For Sale: 1948 Ford 1-1/2 Ton Pickup in Paso Robles, California

Vehicle Description

This 1948 Ford F5 is a 1 ½-ton flatbed that was modified under prior ownership with a 6.8-liter Ford Triton V10 and four-speed automatic transmission reportedly sourced from a recreational vehicle. The truck is finished in yellow over blue cloth upholstery, and the wood-lined cargo bed features removable oak stake sides. Power windows and an AM/FM/CD head unit have been added, and additional equipment includes a two-speed rear differential, a pinion brake, 20” wheels, power-assisted drum brakes, a receiver hitch with break and light hock up, and a storage locker beneath the bed. Acquired by the seller in 2020, this F5 dually is now offered with spare parts, and a clean California title.

The truck is finished in yellow and features a chrome grille, a receiver hitch, black bumpers, mud flaps, and a storage locker below the front of the bed.

Silver-finished 20” steel wheels are mounted with 7.50” Alpha Kerb Kick’r tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners. The seller notes that the suspension is stiff.

The seller states that the cargo bed floor is lined with teak slats, and the removable stake sides are constructed from oak. Small paint chips on the cargo bed frame are shown up close in the gallery.

The cab features a bench seat trimmed in blue cloth with a color-coordinated headliner, door panels, and carpets. Power windows have been added along with a Dual AM/FM/CD head unit and black rubber floor mats.

The Grant GT steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature, while an 8k-rpm tachometer is mounted above the steering column. The digital odometer indicates 7k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 6.8-liter Triton V10 is said to have been produced for a 1999 Ford F-Series Super Duty truck and has been equipped with a custom aluminum radiator and air intake tube. Air conditioning components are present and set up, but the system is inoperative likely needing a recharge. The seller reports the truck has a 40-gallon fuel tank, and a battery cutoff switch is mounted below the cargo bed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ford 4R100 four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed rear differential with a pinion brake. The differential is not hooked to a switch to change speeds, and it is reportedly set in its high-range position.

Spare side mirrors, brackets, and hardware will accompany the truck.

The truck is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California.
