Vehicle Description
When it comes to finding a truly collectible car, it is hard to
beat a one-year wonder like this 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie
Sunliner Convertible. The Galaxie was offered as the ultimate
iteration of Ford's Fairlane lineup, and its first generation,
while successful, was only the 1959 model year before its
second-gen came along in 1960. Decked out in its Colonial White and
Light Blue two-tone exterior paint, its white power convertible top
looks good up or down. Chrome, side skirts, and fins all scream
1950s, and all of which were toned down and changed drastically
just a year later.
Inside, we find a clean and stock interior outfitted in a brilliant
Radiant Blue and White featuring vinyl-covered bench seats at both
the front and back. A three-spoke sterling white steering wheel
sits in front of an old school column shifter, and a 120 mph
horizontal speedometer. Sliding HVAC controls are complemented by a
Vintage Air setup under the dashboard to keep you cool even when
driving under a hot sun. The retro analog dashboard clock adds a
bit of elegance, while the sideview mirror hand levers keep things
simple in a way only a true 1950s classic can.
Under the hood, we find a 292 cubic-inch V-8 engine. Topped by a
single two-barrel carburetor, this engine pumped out an advertised
200 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque when it rolled off the
assembly line. That power is funneled through a two-speed
Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission before exiting through a true
dual exhaust.
