styling and design departments of Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge. It
was as if corporate designers were sitting in meeting rooms
scratching their heads searching for new ideas. On the other hand,
the '53 Mercury Monterey was a thing of beauty with its smooth
lines and sophisticated trim. In a time when most car models were
similar, nothing looked like the Monterey; it was a true work of
art. Although more of a twenty footer today, this '53 Merc had to
be breathtaking when it rolled off the assembly line. The recipient
of a recent tune up, electric fuel pump, and exhaust there's just
nothing that sounds like a, "Flatty." Still highly original, this
Monterey would be a great entry level classic car for the do it
yourselfer. Its had some paint touch up here and there but when the
sun hits it, this beauty still comes to life. There's tremendous
potential with a little TLC to make this '53 Mercury something
