In 1976 and 1977, the factory offered the Carrera 3.0 with stronger
aluminum-cased engines utilizing Bosch's CIS to meet emission and
sound requirements with 200 hp to replace the emission-challenged
Carrera 2.7 MFI cars, and of course, they had to perform better (or
at least as good) as their RS and MFI predecessor (with 210
hp).
The Carrera 3.0 engine was essentially the phenomenal 911 Turbo's
2994 cc engine minus the turbocharger. Built before the '911 SC' it
has everything the SC has, and more. It's a different drive with
more power at 200 bhp and more torque, now at 188 ft/lb @ 4200 rpm,
and it was 10% lighter, too. It has the 6-bolt flywheel and a crank
from the legendary 73 Carrera RS. The 3.0 Carrera would go on to be
the basis for all future developed 911s up to 1989, including the
911SC and 3.2 Carrera.
This Carrera 3.0 Sunroof Coupe is finished in its original color
combination of Silver Metallic over Black leatherette interior.
According to the Certificate of Authenticity, the optional
equipment from the factory includes Equipment for Germany, Fog
Lights, White Under Bumper, Black roof liner, Rear Fog Lights,
Electric Sunroof, and Dunlop Tires.
The paintwork is in great condition and is complemented by black
Carrera script down both sides and blacked-out Fuch alloy wheels
with Toyo Proxes TR1 225 50 R15 rear 205 50 R15 tires. The interior
is very well preserved with new German carpets, nicely upholstered
black front seats with Pin Stripe Velour Seat Inserts, leather
wrapped steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, with a perfect dash
and black headliner. A Porsche Classic radio has been installed
with Apple CarPlay and hands-free Bluetooth communication.
Purchased by the current owner on June 10th, 2020, from Hamburg,
Germany, and imported into the USA. In September of 2021, Air
Cooled Classics in Knoxville, Tennessee rebuilt the engine
including new Mahle 98mm pistons and cylinders (3.2L), main
bearings, rod bearings, 964 cams, valve springs, intake valve,
exhaust valves, cam chains, chain rails, head studs, valve guides,
rod bolts, and nuts, oil return tubes, OEM 11 blade fan, new oil
pump, SSI heat exchangers, SSI exhaust, oil hose - tank to the
thermostat, Front oil cooler kit, clutch disc, distributor cap,
distributor rotor, rebuilt fuel distributor, rebuilt warm-up
regulator, front and rear brake caliper kits, rear rotors, front,
and rear brake pads, and new spark plugs, over $30,000 was spent.
This is a true rocket ship to drive! It is well-sorted and solid
and rust-free.
Complete with Certificate of Authenticity, spare wheel, Porsche
Classic Radio manuals, and 8 years of service history. Truly an
unbelievable 911 to drive, the 3.0 Carrera was only produced from
1976 to 1977 and used the Turbo Carrera 930 engine case. Producing
200 hp @ 6000 rpm with 188 ft lbs @ 4200 rpm. It goes from 0 to 60
in 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of 143 mph.
