In 1973 BMW built a total of 773 3.0CS's globally, with 450 of them shipped to the USA. The 3.0CS was developed as a competitive series car and came with dual carburetors on a straight six, producing 180 horsepower.
This Verona Red 1973 3.0CS was originally sold in Denver, Colorado and has two previous owners, before the current owner purchased the car on November 2019. At that time a four year refurbishment project was done by a national known restoration shop. The second owner purchased the 3.0CS in 1981 and drove it as a weekend car for two years. From 1983 until November 2019 the car was stored in a garage in Montrose, Colorado - a very dry climate. When new, the first owner Ziebart the under carriage, and this coating remains the on car today. Due to this care and storage, this 3.0CS has never had any rust on the body and under carriage.
In 1982 the second owner had a premier Denver paint shop repaint the car in it's original Verona Red color. This 3.0CS has all it's original Karmann Ghia panels with no repairs on the panels ever. The engine, transmission and rear end are all original numbers matching to this original car. During the four year project, the interior showed wear and it's age. The decision was made to purchase a complete BMW 3.0CS interior. All carpet, headliner, all leather seats, door panels, all the Teak ,the windshield and a complete dash was replaced. The brand new dash and windshield cost $3,300 (the dash and windshield got cracked during the dismantle of the interior).
In the engine bay, every component of the engine was inspected, cleaned and all belts, gaskets, hoses, spark plugs, and fluids got replaced. The radiator went through a complete refurbishment also. A new water pump was installed due to age. The restoration shop recommend we install an electronic distributor and store the original distributor, which we have. The new 123 ignition/distributor makes the car run smoothly/like new.
The paint has been waxed and polished and looks new. The side and hood grills got replaced with original BMW parts. There are no blemishes, scratches, dings or dents on the 3.0CS. As mentioned earlier, this car has never had any rust or accidents/dents. We have every receipt for all parts purchased and we have the restoration shops complete refurbishment invoices.
Regarding the history on the car, I knew the second owners son and saw the car stored in the Montrose garage in 1993. I told his dad that if he ever sells the car, call me. I purchased it from him on November 2019.
