most enthusiasts agree to be the first shot in what would become
the muscle car wars. By dropping their full-size 389ci V8 into an
affordable intermediate, Pontiac produced a car with a favorable
power-to-weight ratio that younger buyers wanted desperately and
could actually afford with an average job. Today, most serious
collectors have at least one GTO because it was the progenitor of
all the muscle cars that followed. This stunning Carousel Red (72)
1969 GTO Judge (554) is a magnificent example of these historically
important muscle machines. Beneath the iconic and functional scoops
lurks the 400ci Ram Air III V8, a torque-rich engine that was
standard with the Judge package. Additional features include power
steering, power front disc brakes, factory air conditioning (582),
TH400 automatic transmission, correct Parchment (257) interior,
3.23 Safe-T-Track rear end, console, AM/FM/8-Track radio, and
225/70R14 tires wrapped around correct Rally II wheels. This gem
was restored by the pros at TLC Restorations and is ready to be a
judged Judge. As close to perfect as I've seen, this jaw-dropper
drives like it looks. Please take note of the spectacular chassis.
