Here's a great example of one of the most recognizable classics of
all time - the legendary '57 Chevy Bel Air. Gorgeous and dramatic
from every angle, the '57 is arguably the pinnacle of styling
excellence among the Tri-5 Chevys. Part of the reason the '57 is
red-hot popular is because it has it all - the most evolved of the
'50's rear fins, Frenched headlights, the newly-introduced small
block V-8 - at a time when most cars still had six cylinders, as
well as sweeping, rocket-inspired side styling, and one of the most
attractive interiors and dashboard layouts ever come out of
Detroit.
This particular example has even more to offer. Besides being
finished in stunning red on red with a white power top, it was one
of only 68 Bel Air convertibles made with factory fuel injection -
which was extremely advanced and virtually unheard of in the '50's.
Developed by Chevrolet engineers in conjunction with Rochester
Automotive, this pioneering marvel made it onto a few lucky Bel
Airs and Corvettes in time for the 1957 model year. When specified
with the Duntov solid-lifter cam like this example was, the engine
output reached the magical one horsepower-per-cubic inch plateau.
Rated at 283 HP from its 283 cubic inch engine at a time when most
cars had under 200 HP, it's no wonder these were the cars to beat
on the streets, the strips, and various motorsports events around
the country.
The star of countless TV and movie features, a front-runner in
early drag racing, and always a regular at car shows and collector
events to this day - the '57 Chevy is truly a legendary car that
has continued to gain popularity for nearly 70 years. With this
particular example, you're guaranteed to be the class of the field
among other '57 Chevys since only a handful of the original
sixty-eight '57 Bel Air convertibles are believed to still exist
today.
