“Our status symbol is under the hood, not on it.” – Bayerische Motoren Werke
Shortly after World War II, BMW was the first to introduce the 501 Limousine. It was equipped with a six-cylinder engine, and the engineers soon realized they had to dig deeper into their arsenal to stay ahead of the competition. At the Geneva Motor Show, BMW launched the 502, the first post-war BMW with a V8. Not only was it faster than its predecessor and competitors, with a top speed of 160 km/h, but it was also more luxurious in every aspect.
If you were truly among the elite in the 1950s and wanted a convertible, you would visit the renowned coachbuilder Baur. Since 1910, this was the go-to place for owners of luxury models from Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and Horch to elevate their cars to the next level and customize them to their exact wishes.
Our example? It’s truly something special! One of only 57 two-door convertibles ever produced, originally delivered by Baur through the well-known BMW dealer Bischof & Co. in Cologne. Finished in GrauGrün with a green leather interior, it exudes timeless elegance. With just three owners in its lifetime, the last one cherished it for an incredible 51 years.
This is a true rarity in automotive history… and we don’t say that often!
