Description:
This 1970 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is an L-series car that was pampered
with a 3,500-man-hour restoration at P4 Motorsports between March
2015 and January 2019. It went on to take first in class at
Cavallino Classic 28 in Palm Beach that year. The car is finished
in Nocciola Metallizzato over black Skai vinyl and powered by a
2.4-liter V6 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. The car also
features triple Weber carburetors, four-wheel ventilated disc
brakes, 14" Cromodora alloy wheels with knock-off hubs, and a
heater. This L-Series 246 is now offered on dealer consignment with
a Ferrari Classiche Certification and Red Book, a book documenting
the restoration, service records, a tool kit, and a clean Florida
title.
The L-Series 246 GT debuted at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show as the
successor to the 206 GT, and like its predecessor, it featured an
aluminum hood, decklid, and doors. Approximately 355 examples were
built between June 1969 and October 1970. US-market lighting
includes recessed rectangular front turn signals, side markers, and
rear reflectors inboard of the taillights.
Interior:
The seats and steering wheel were reupholstered by O'Rourke
Coachtrimmers in England. The seats in Skai vinyl and the steering
wheel in leather. Black carpets line the floors, and additional
features include Klippan seatbelts, gray "mouse-fur" dash trim, a
heater, a gated shifter, a passenger-side footrest, and headrests
mounted to the rear bulkhead. The metric Dino-branded Veglia
Borletti instrumentation was overhauled during the restoration. The
five-digit odometer was reset and now shows 536 kilometers ~(333
miles).
Exterior:
The car was stripped and disassembled before a repaint in the
factory Nocciola Metallizzato, and lead solder was used on the
panels. Over 80 photos of the restoration process are provided in
the gallery. The magnesium 14" Cromodora knock-off wheels are
mounted with 205/70 Michelin tires, and a matching spare wheel is
mounted in the front trunk. The suspension incorporates
unequal-length A-arms, coilover shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars
at the front and rear. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted
ventilated disc brakes all around.
Drivetrain:
The mid-mounted 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 was overhauled during the
build. It features a 65 angle between cylinder banks, dual
overhead camshafts on each bank, Magneti Marelli ignition, and a
trio of two-barrel Weber carburetors. Power is sent to the rear
wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip
differential.
