Featured in the January 2022 GTO magazine, 1965 Pontiac GTO in
Capri Gold sets the standard for classic muscle with factory
Tri-Power credentials. Magazine-worthy and meticulously restored,
this second-year GTO runs with optional Rally One Pontiac wheels
with trim rings, gripped by Goodyear Eagle GT II P215/70R14 white
letter radials. Clean, muscular lines of the body get extra
definition from vinyl pinstripes along the top edges, while
factory-correct exhaust splitters nail the period look. Frame-off
restored in 1996, this GTO maintains a clean, consistent look that
makes it stand tall among early muscle machines.
Black vinyl covers the factory-authentic interior, giving this GTO
a no-nonsense muscle car attitude. The bucket seats grip you during
hard cornering while looking period perfect. Factory console with
the correct shifter and shift knob puts the Muncie four-speed right
where you need it. All the original Pontiac gauges line the dash -
racing flag speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, and oil
pressure - giving you all the information you need at a glance.
Factory Pontiac floor mats, three-spoke steering wheel with
simulated wood rim, and original AM radio complete the pure '60s
muscle car vibe.
Brutal performance comes from the legendary 389 V8 with factory
Tri-Power setup gulping air through three Rochester two-barrel
carburetors with mechanical linkage. WS-code means 360 tire-smoking
horsepower connected to the M21 Muncie four-speed manual
transmission. Rebuilt in 1996, the engine looks showroom fresh with
factory-correct cast iron manifolds, chrome valve covers, and
chrome open-element air cleaners. A 10-bolt rear end with 3.90
gears and limited slip gets all that Detroit muscle to the pavement
for explosive launches. The full mechanical package delivers pure,
unadulterated performance that made the GTO name legendary.
