Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
"The '74 isn't a totally new Corvette, just better. Take the
styling. We wouldn't just change it for the sake of change. But
when we made the rear bumper stronger, we made the Corvette's
entire rear styling look different. And, we think, better. The 1974
Corvette still represents what it set out to be: A car that
combines the road holding and handling qualities of a true sports
car with the grace and refinement of a personal luxury car. After
all, that's why the Corvette is so much in demand. And who would
want to change that? Not us. Not you." Thx corvettemuseum.org
For consignment, a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title
verified 76,551 actual miles, one of just 5,474 convertibles built
in 1974 and this one is a two top car as the accessory hard top and
carrier come along with it. This is a project vehicle with many
parts that have been assembled in preparation for restoration. In
fact, more than $15,000 worth of parts will accompany the Vette
when it arrives at your garage! There is not one inch of this car
that hasn't been touched, whether already restored, prepped for
parts application, or partially restored.
Exterior
In various stages of restoration, primer gray is the natural
coverage on this straight body, never hit according to our
consignor. Meanwhile, new front and rear bumpers are evident along
with a good amount of work already applied to the car. Wondering
what color you're going to paint it? Let the Medium Saddle interior
and tan canvas top guide you as the top is in good condition with
some hazing on the window. Be sure to include the hardtop in your
painting plans and create the car of your dreams! Check wheels off
your list of "to do's" as the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are in
great shape and ready to go!
Interior
The door panels are not on but are included with the car along with
dozens of interior parts, some bought new, others gleaned as good
condition used parts. Among them, you'll also find a new carpet set
and trim pieces for the interior and for now, carpeted mats are in
place. Medium Saddle leather seats occupy the cabin in good
condition and match the center console armrest and dash pad, which
is cracked but a new one comes along. The steering wheel is a
tilting model and the column telescopes.
Drivetrain
The rebuilt engine sits cleanly in the bay, a 350ci V8 rated at 195
horsepower and fueled by a new 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a
rebuilt TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that leads to a
rebuilt Positraction rear with 3.08 gears. Power disc brakes are
found front and rear. Power steering is also onboard for your
driving pleasure!
Undercarriage
The frame has been sandblasted, sealed, and primed just before
paint and clear were applied, and it looks great. The dual exhaust
is newer and travels through stock style mufflers before exiting
downward via two pipes in back. Suspension here is made up of coil
springs in front and Corvette's complex rear suspension is present
and capped off with transverse leaf springs. Check the
undercarriage off your list, it's also done and awaiting topside
restoration!
Drive-Ability
It runs and drives and shifts just fine as we take this work in
progress for a short lap around the loop. With the drivetrain and
suspension done, here's one you can drive in order to move it while
working on it! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Are you looking for a project Vette but don't want to spend hours,
days, and weekends scouring swap meets for parts? Now you can eat
your cake and have it too as this is like a life size Monogram
model kit and parts for every corner of this car will accompany
this car. Even a wiring diagram and assembly manual are included
with the car, along with lights, emblems, headlight vacuum kit,
wiring, and more trim than a tailor's shears. The legwork has been
done for you, it just needs some elbow grease! Need some quality
father and son time? Here's the antidote!
