Vehicle Description
The Camaro was Chevrolet's answer the ever-growing popularity of
the Ford Mustang. Being introduced just two years after the Ford
pony car, Chevrolet wanted to impress buyers with more aggressive
body lines, multiple trim options, along with both big & small
block engine options. It instantly made a dent in Ford sales every
year, beginning the Ford/ Chevrolet showroom rivalry! The final
year of this first-generation Camaro debuted in 1969 and continues
to be the most desirable today!
The Yenko Chevrolet dealer based in Canonsburg, PA got an early
start in 1967 on performance enhancements on his Chevrolet lineup
to further separate himself from the competition. This meant
working directly with Chevrolet utilizing the Central Office
Production Order (COPO) system to order units that were factory
fitted with Corvette power plants, and basic Super Sport equipment
like the 12-bolt axle, power disc brakes, and big block suspension!
He would order and build 201 Camaro Yenko SC427 Sport Coupes in
1969 making them one of the rarest muscle cars to ever appear on
the market. With crazy price tags to match their limited
availability, most Camaro enthusiasts and collectors will settle
for a tribute example replicating an original.
We are excited to offer this beautifully restored 1969 Chevrolet
Camaro Sport Coupe Yenko SC427 tribute! Finished in its factory
appointed code- 71 Lemans Blue and Black bucket seat interior (711)
along with Custom Interior Group which included woodgrain accents
on dash & steering wheel, bright metal pedal trim, glove box light,
and a rear trunk mat. Powered by a fully rebuilt, later generation
Hi-Perf 402ci V8 big block with 1966 date-coded oval port heads,
Edelbrock RPM Air Gap aluminum intake, Edelbrock carburetor, HEI
ignition, Sanderson ceramic coated headers, Magnaflow exhaust
system, Muncie wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, and
1969-date-coded 12-bolt rear axle fitted with 3.31 gearing.
It comes very well equipped with options to include power front
disc brakes, Borgeson power steering, cowl induction hood, rear
bumper guards, Yenko hood & side stripes, Yenko 427 badging,
special console instrumentation & dash tachometer, chrome engine
dress up kit, 15" Rally wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A
tires measuring 215/70R15 up front & 255/60R15 at the rear, and the
Z21 Style Trim Group adding roof drip & wheel lip moldings, body
sill molding, bright headlight & taillight accents, and simulated
rear fender louvers.
A close look at this Yenko clone will display a beautiful older
paint finish with only a few minor touch-ups here and there, along
with an interior upholstery with proper YSC headrests. It truly
sounds as good as it looks, considering the restoration was
completed in approximately 2006. The former owner of 15 years
bought the car from a Dallas, Texas collector in September 2009 and
enjoyed the car from his Casper, Wyoming home ever since. It has
clearly been garage-kept for most of its life and retains excellent
gaps and fitment throughout. It runs down the road just as you
would expect, with stellar performance in every respect!
Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, we provided a service to
include a new double roller timing chain (in place of the former
gear driven unit) which allowed us the opportunity to replace the
water pump & gasket, fan & clutch, thermostat, radiator hoses, &
heater hoses before flushing the system with fresh coolant. We also
installed a new, larger Edelbrock 750cfm carburetor, fresh fuel
filter; new spark plugs, fresh air filter, new engine oil/filter,
engine mounts, transmission mount, rear differential gear oil and
resealed differential cover. Please feel free to call with
additional questions, or to schedule an opportunity to see it in
person! Thanks for looking!
