Vehicle Description
After the Me-Decade of the 1970s ended, personal luxury coupe sales
began to dwindle, with similar spillover effects on mainstream
two-door coupes, including Buick's LeSabre Limited Coupe.
This unit, made in General Motors' Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas
City, Kansas, was delivered to Reagan Buick in Omaha, Nebraska. The
Dark Blue paint and accompanying trim are all in very good overall,
with some minor blemishes visible on the hood and on the left rear
quarter panel at close range. The paint is complemented by a Carbon
Flash half-vinyl roof (code 31T) that looks great. Local consignor
purchased the car in 2016 and mileage of 24,378 is understood to be
actual.
From its chrome wraparound bumpers, which are in very good shape,
and wide grille to its full-width taillights, there's no mistaking
this B-body car for any of its siblings from Chevrolet, Pontiac or
Oldsmobile. This example as dual sideview mirrors. The car's engine
bay is extremely tidy, the cargo area is clean and has a full-size
spare tire and wheel, plus tire cover and bumper jack. There are
also a set of floor mats in the trunk.
This big B-body rolls Cooper Trendsetter SE white stripe radials,
size P215/70R15 at all four corners. Each one is mounted on a steel
wheel, topped with locking wire wheel covers (code N91). The wire
wheel covers are in very good order while the tires appear in good,
original condition. This car came from the factory equipped with
GM's F41 suspension option, making the car ride and handle firmer
than the base suspension and there are a pair of mudflaps on the
rear wheel wells.
Under that big, counterbalanced hood is a 307 CID V-8 engine with a
four-barrel carburetor (code LV2), which was a variant of the
Rochester Quadrajet, usually the CCC (Computer Command Control)
Quadrajet. In 1985, roller lifters, floating piston wrist pins and
swirl port intake runners were added. Backing this motor is a Turbo
Hydramatic 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
(THM200-4R) and a 2.73:1 rear differential.
Driver convenience features include air-conditioning (code C68),
power recirculating ball steering, power disc/drum brakes, cruise
control (code K34), power windows (code C31), power locks, power
sideview mirrors (code DG2), power front seats, automatic
headlights (code T82), rear window defroster (code C49) and tilt
and telescoping steering column (code N33). A/C blows, but not
cold.
Inside, the Dark Blue cloth upholstery (code 27) looks sumptuous
and inviting. The front seat is split 50-50 and has individual
fold-down arms for driver and front passenger. The matching
carpeting looks great and even the courtesy lights still work after
almost 40 years. The headliner looks great, as does the two-spoke
deluxe steering wheel (code N32). Faux wood paneling graces the
inner door panels and dashboard for touches of warmth and happens
to coordinate well with the dark blue. There's an electronic touch
climate control panel mounted above a Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with
cassette deck, auto reverse, scan/seek five-band graphic equalizer
and metal tape settings. A column-mounted shift lever completes the
interior.
In 1985, the top-line LeSabre Limited became the LeSabre Limited
Collector's Edition to mark the end of an era for the rear-drive
sedan and coupe.
Coupe competition to this Buick in 1985 included Buick's own
Riviera, Dodge's 600 Club Coupe, Ford's LTD Crown Victoria,
Mercury's Grand Marquis, Oldsmobile's Delta 88 and Toronado and
Pontiac's Parisienne.
If you remember when your parents or your grandparents owned one of
these big, cushy cruisers, here's your chance to own one for
yourself. This would make a great cruising car to take your wife on
a weekend or holiday getaway, especially one that requires a lot of
Interstate highway travel. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and
look this B-body Buick over for yourself. Wouldn't you really
rather have a Buick?
