One of the draws of having a collectible car is that it is often
something that not everyone has. A vehicle that epitomizes
scarcity, like this 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport Convertible, can turn
far more heads than just another run-of-the-mill sports car. One of
just 2,842 made for the debut year, this white and black drop-top
sports its factory-correct placed Dakota Sport and side-stripe
decals to give it a sporty and unique look from any angle.
Full-length black bed rails and a matching full black plastic
bedliner add another level of practicality to go along with this
Dakota's fun-loving open-air character.
Inside, we find a warm, dark red, crushed velour interior. A bench
seat featuring 'Dakota' embossed headrests, a fold-down armrest,
and a huge storage tray in place of a traditional glove box in
front of the passenger seat. A six-pod analog gauge cluster sits
just ahead of the column shifter and three-spoke padded steering
wheel. Push-and-slide button HVAC controls sit amid the center
stack, allowing for operation without taking your eyes off the
road.
Under the hood, we find a 3.9-liter iron block and heads Magnum V-6
engine. When new, the overhead valve engine made 125 horsepower and
195 pound-feet of torque. That power is funneled through a
four-speed automatic transmission with push-button overdrive. At
all four corners, a set of five-spoke fifteen-inch wheels shod in
215/75R-15 Fuzion tires. Hiding behind those wheels are a set of
power-assisted discs up front and drums at the rear.
