Vehicle Description
When it comes to cool cruising, only a short list of cars and
trucks truly fits the bill. One of those cars is undoubtedly this
1995 Chevrolet Impala SS. Derived from Chevy's Caprice, this Impala
SS' intimidating stance comes thanks to a beefed-up suspension that
came along with the 9C1 police package, which also includes a
high-capacity cooling system, transmission cooler, bigger brakes,
and dual exhaust. With just 8,804 actual miles on its odometer,
this black beauty has barely been broken in.
Inside, we find an original, correct, and stock grey leather
interior featuring dual power seats, power locks, windows, mirrors,
and even a power trunk release. Air conditioning and cruise control
make long trips more manageable, while the stock AC Delco AM/FM/CD
sound system makes them more fun. Four analog auxiliary gauges
surround the digital speedometer directly in front of the
minimalist two-spoke steering wheel, while a spacious
cupholder/storage unit sits at the front of the center console
thanks to this car's column shifter location.
Under the hood, we find a 5.7-liter LT1 V-8 engine. In stock form,
the Impala's LT1 utilized iron cylinder heads (as opposed to
aluminum on the Corvette) and a camshaft that was geared more for
low-end torque than top-end horsepower. From the factory, the
Impala SS could put down a respectable 260 horsepower and an
impressive 330 pound-feet of torque. That power is funneled through
a four-speed automatic transmission before heading out to the
factory ten-bolt rear end, where a set of 3.08 gears waits to put
that power to the pavement.

Though it checks in at around 4,300 pounds, this 1995 Chevrolet
Impala SS is surprisingly light on its feet thanks to its stout,
low-end LT1 grunt. Capable of running from 0-60 mph in about seven
seconds and through the quarter mile in the mid-15-second range,
this Impala can get up and move quickly enough to live up to its
namesake. Offering a wonderful mix of style, comfort, and power,
this sinister Super Sport proves why it will forever be on the
short list of cool cruisers. If you'd like to find out for
