Vehicle Description
1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 25th Anniversary Coupe
Arguably, no one does anniversary cars like Pontiac does Trans Ams.
Or should we say, did? With Pontiac's demise in 2010, it not only
spelled the end for Firebirds, but also killed the run of
anniversary editions that started with the 10th in '79 and
continued with the 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and 35th. Each special
edition was limited in production and painted in distinctive colors
and/or included a designating decal package.
For consignment, a 1994 Pontiac Trans Am 25th Anniversary edition
with a title verified 65,331 actual miles. It's not the first time
the anniversary edition had body matched wheels; ten years earlier
the 1984 also had white wheels. This example is car #580 of 2,000
made and will come with its original bill of sale, historic
information, and other documentation.
Exterior
Arctic White two stage paint adorns the straight panels of this car
with composite bumpers on the front and rear which blend seamlessly
to form this aerodynamic anniversary edition of the Trans Am. A
center blue stripe is reserved for the anniversary edition and
terminates on the nose piece where the screaming eagle takes over,
well in front of the hidden headlights. That eagle, (or chicken,
Phoenix, firebird, etc), reappears as a large white decal added to
the rear window while the steeply raked windshield leads to the
smoked T-tops that provide a jet canopy-like profile. Out back, a
big vertical wing carries the third brake light and throws some
shade on the tail lights with their black grid coverage tail light
treatment being a recurring detail with Trans Ams. Distinctive
Borla exhaust tips are peeking out of the rear valance which is
contoured to accept them. White 5 spoke wheels are on all 4 corners
wrapped in 235/55R16 tires black walls. At the base of the door is
the designation in half decal, half emblem, all italicized.
Imperfections include some stress cracks in the composite end piece
as well as a crack in the material at a wheel opening.
Interior
Clean sculpted door panels utilize white leather inserts and black
molded plastic to form the integrated armrest/door pull/power
toggle housing and the speaker, all with the 25th Trans Am badge
embroidered in the white field. This insignia is also found on the
seat back of the white leather bucket seats which contrast sharply
with the black and charcoal based interior, exemplified best by the
rear 2+2 configuration. They're all in good shape with a small tear
and some patina on the driver's seat and a stain on the
passenger's. Racing forward is a center console which has a
glovebox, shift lever and cup holder. As the dash rises temp
controls and an AM/FM/CD stereo with a built in equalizer is neatly
embedded into this center stack and a trio of round vents are just
above. More windswept sculpting for the instrument cluster which
has a beautifully curved arch with analog gauges in the cluster.
Charcoal carpeting floods the floors and is very clean, as is the
headliner that divides the T-tops. Underneath the rear greenhouse
glass is a charcoal felted trunk tub and a flat upper storage
area.
Drivetrain
A clean but driven 5.7 liter LT1 V8, which is rated at 275 horses
is under the hood and it shows light patina. Electronic fuel
injection feeds the fires within and a 4L60E 4-speed automatic is
strapped to the back of this LT1 sending power to the 10 bolt axle
with 3.23 gears. This performance car gets power disc brakes all
around.
Undercarriage
More patina underneath but darn fine for 65,000 miles. We note some
oil on the rear differential and the torque arm, also some oil film
on the oil pan and transmission belly. There are bits of surface
rust, mostly on nuts and bolts, and no invasive rust is seen.
Independent coil spring suspension for the front, and a torque arm
with coil springs for the rear are seen. The single exhaust meets a
Borla catback system that includes the muffler out back and
termination through quad tips.
Drive-Ability
The V8 starts up without protest and the Borla provides a confident
growl as we put her into Drive and head out to the test loop. Car
and Driver recorded a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds back in the day
which is pretty quick, and we have no doubt this car could achieve
the same. The seats are supportive, and the handling is just great.
The A/C is not working but all other functions on the car work as
intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Car and Driver continues, "The result is a white on white on white
stunner of a car, with the highest profile in traffic this side of
a presidential motorcade. But if the rubberneckers get to be a
bother, just put the throttle on the carpet and they're history. As
long gone as 1969". These are special, rare, and collectible and
here's one we would not hesitate to drive on more than just special
occasions, like anniversaries.
