For Sale: 1937 Cord 812 in Wayne, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

Reimel Motor Cars is proud to offer this 812 'Sportsman' cabriolet. This car is beautifully finished in Rich Maroon over a Tan leather interior with a Tan top.

The 812 'Sportsman' cabriolet with the optional supercharged engine is the most desirable Cord, known for its powerful engine. With only 64 units ever produced and merely 30 still in existence, this rare gem is a collector's dream.

Documented by the ACD Club Certification, this cabriolet was first registered in Illinois. The included certification paperwork features rubbings from the original serial number plate, verifying its origins as a supercharged vehicle. Its impressive history can be traced back to 1950, marked by noteworthy ownership. The most significant custodian was Lee Richardson of Carefree, Arizona, who acquired the Cord in 1969 and cherished it for an impressive 37 years. As a highly skilled engineer and one of the original Imagineers for Disney, Mr. Richardson's passion for the Cord began in his youth, leading him to enhance its unique features significantly.
Richardson focused on resolving several of the Cord's notorious quirks, notably developing the acclaimed "Richardson joint" conversion to address the unreliable front-wheel CV joints.

During his tenure with the cabriolet, he implemented advantageous modifications, including his distinctive front axle joints, a modern 12-volt electrical system, discreetly integrated electric fuel pump and cutoff switch, and an electric radiator fan. Adding a playful touch, he even installed power operation for the headlights. Importantly, all these modifications remain easily reversible, allowing for authentic restoration. At one point, the original engine was exchanged for another accurate supercharged engine, FC 3232, which is still in place today.

In 1997, this exceptional vehicle transitioned to the hands of another esteemed ACD Club member, the late Hal Bjorklund from Colorado, who meticulously restored it to its factory-original color, Rich Maroon, complemented by a luxurious tan leather interior and a matching tan cloth top-just as you see it today.

This cabriolet is not just a car; it's a testament to craftsmanship, history, and automotive passion. Well-maintained and cherished for decades, this authentic supercharged cabriolet represents an extraordinary addition for any ACD enthusiast, serving as an ideal example for reliable touring and CCCA CARavans. Don't miss the opportunity to own a piece of rare automotive history.
