When discussing the Golden Age of muscle cars, there is almost no
debate that Shelby Cobra embodies the absolute pinnacle of
performance perfection. The problem with being nearly flawless is
that it is virtually impossible to improve upon it. However, with
this 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 from Backdraft Racing, perfection may
have just gotten an upgrade. As a newly appointed authorized
retailer for Backdraft Racing, Streetside Classics is proud to
present you with this brand new build. With only 90 test miles on
the clock, this Guardsman Blue beauty sports a set of classic
Wimbledon White racing stripes and a Roush Performance 427 R V8.
Sold with a Certificate of Origin from Backdraft Motorsports, the
lucky buyer of this automobile will be the first registered
owner.
Step inside this racy roadster, and you'll be treated to an all-new
black leather interior. Classic Cobra features like door-release
leather straps, door pockets, a forward-tilt shifter, racing
harnesses, and a reverse speedometer all respectfully nod to the
original car's signature style. The adjustable driver's seat and
power-assisted three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel add just a
touch of modern convenience, allowing this car to be even more of a
joy to drive than the one it is based on.
Under the front-hinged hood, we find an engine worthy of the Shelby
name. A Roush 427 R V-8 which is good for 550HP and 535 LB.FT.
Built from a new Dart Sportsman block, it is fed by a Holley 870
Street Avenger four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock aluminum
intake. Spent gasses are exhaled through a set of long tube headers
before ultimately exiting through those illustrious side pipes.
Power is routed through a Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission
with hydraulic clutch before being sent out to a set of 18-inch
correct Cobra-style genuine knock-off wheels. Unlike the bias-ply
radials of the 1960s, this Backdraft Cobra gets a set of
245/40ZR-18 front and wider 295/40ZR-18 rear Nitto NT555
ultra-high-performance rubber, which does a much better job of
putting all that tremendous power to the pavement, and launching
you into speed-fueled bliss even quicker than Shelby's original.
Other features include coil-over front struts with multi-link
independent rear suspension, power steering and ventilated power
disc brakes.

As incredible as Carroll's masterpiece was, this 1965 Shelby Cobra
427 Backdraft is able to carve up corners and rein in all of its
power with far less anxiety than anything made more than half of a
century ago. However, the subtle upgrades this new Cobra comes with
only serve to enhance its abilities. All of the visual drama and
visceral driving experience that Shelby intended is alive and well
and possibly even a bit more perfect in this modern reincarnation
of his legendary Cobra. But don't wait, because the only thing
faster than the king of muscle cars is how quickly it will be sure
to sell. Call today!
