Exterior
Faithfully Climate-Controlled Garage-Kept – typically with a custom cover - her entire life AND IT SHOWS! Its reflective of its near pristine condition. Obviously, the previous owners used it as a weekend cruiser and on nice days, certainly NOT as a daily driver! Bathed in the original Desert Red color, all panels are straight, and all 4-doors still possess that famous Mercedes factory “thud” when closing. Exterior paint is near unspoiled, shiny and gleaming. Chrome trimmings are all good and beam in the sun, as are the bumpers, front grille, window surrounds and side trimmings. These models are beautiful in their designs with the vertical headlights and signals directly below surrounded in a chromed bezel, all within a thin side fender up front. Foglights are white on this specific model and on atop the black rubber trimmed chrome front bumper as well and moving rearward to the ribbed tail lights on matching thin design rear quarters. Those ribs are there for a reason...they help keep the taillights clean in dirty conditions and visible even in heavy conditions like snow and ice. Rare all-chrome wheel covers / hubcaps are all around on polished steel wheels and are wrapped by very good rubber (newer tires). Quite simply – one of the most well-preserved presentations of high-quality German engineering you’ll likely see in such a vintage MBZ automobile. Very hard to find a vintage Benz in such stunning condition. She will make you proud everywhere you go!
Interior
Inside, is equipped with a range of features designed to enhance comfort and convenience. The 1976 Mercedes-Benz 300D also boasts a suite of power features that enhance its practicality and ease of use. Power steering and power brakes contribute to a responsive and controlled driving experience, while power windows offer added convenience and a touch of luxury. The rear defogger ensures clear visibility in various weather conditions, and three-point seatbelts front and rear seats are included to provide essential safety for all occupants. Plush, luxurious seats are All-Original Palomino (Tan) German MB-Tex and bucket-styled are up front, and a nice original Tan bench is in the rear all in near showroom condition with no tears, no rips, no marks, no dirt and no smudges. The buckets sport a central armrest which louvers up and down for convenience and this repeats on the sprawling rear bench. NOTE: the fact that the interior, even the driver’s seat is so very flawless with no wear detected, is just one more testament to this classic’s low milage! The simple but effective German design dash houses dual round gauges and a central round clock. Just below, facing both the driver and passenger are highly lacquered German walnut inserts, adding an air of class to the very machine age dash. Various pulls and knobs are below, and the original flawless condition steering wheel is fronting this dash. Super-Clean original deluxe looped pile plush tan colored carpet floods the floors, and above is a nice perforated vinyl headliner in lite-tan. In the center within the low-profile console is the gear shift for the 4-speed automatic transmission and rocker switches for the power windows. A shout out to the larger-than-life trunk - clean and rust-free - with its full-sized spare tire, jack and even the rare MBZ factory tool kit in its’ original case.
Drivetrain
A robust and strong running 3.0-liter OM617 Inline 5-Cylinder Diesel has been well maintained always by certified Mercedes technicians who kept things running tip top and ensuring a smooth and reliable driving experience that Mercedes-Benz is renowned for. The Engine Bay is clean as a whistle and overall, the engine shows slight patina on the metal surfaces but runs like a German intricate Cuckoo clock from the same Black Forest this car was made. A Daimler Benz 4-speed automatic transmission is on back sending power to a 3.46 geared axle that can take you down the road efficiently and smoothly. NOTE: Engine recently serviced and many original upgrades completed. List happily provides to interested parties.
Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and a brief wait for the glow plugs to do their thing and the "clacker" comes to life. To say this vintage Mercedes is a pleasurable drive is an understatement… with steady diesel acceleration, smooth shifting, and easy steering you can tell why this was considered by all to be the ultimate executive vehicle of its era. All power functions (switches, lights, etc) are working as they should with the exception of the clock not keeping time. The cruise control feature adds an extra layer of convenience for long drives, maintaining your desired speed effortlessly. The AC blowing is cool yet probably needs some Freon to make it even better. The radio is also the original AM/FM Becker/Europa that came with the car when she rolled off the assembly line 49-years ago and it works! She cruises VERY nice and straight and the four-wheel independent suspension supplies the very comfortable ride. The interior offers-up plenty of room and you can easily imagine yourself on a winding road through the German Black Forest. Ahhhhhh.
A well-preserved beautifully taken-care of Mercedes Benz, in Diesel format featuring the infamous “Forever-Million-Mile-Engine”. With only 47,800 original miles this legacy of premiere automotive engineering will be in flawless service for you, your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for decades to come…
