Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is delighted to share with you this exceptionally
well-presented 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. This mighty Mopar comes
to us today dressed in a slick and glossy coat of its original
paint color - Sunfire Yellow (Y2) with a fantastic-looking black
vinyl top. Gone are the white longitudinal stripes that were
originally on the car, leaving all the focus on the gorgeous yellow
body. The hood features parallel faux air intakes with "383"
call-outs that let you know this Plymouth means business. At the
forefront you'll find dual side-by-side headlights flanking a
horizontal grille with a gleaming chrome bumper sitting beneath.
Bright chrome trim frames the windows and top and continues with
the dual sport side mirrors, door handles, drip rail molding and
rocker molding. This Plymouth retains most of its original sheet
metal including floorpans and trunk pans that are in excellent
condition. The rear quarters have been replaced and whoever did it
did a stellar job - the sides are laser-straight and they even
applied factory-appearing sound deadener on the inner walls. Both
doors wear fresh and colorful Road Runner bird decals next to
bright "road runner" badges. Around back is another mirror-finish
chrome bumper with factory chrome exhaust tips poking out from
underneath. Square taillights flank a trunklid with a bird decal
and another "road runner" badge on the lower lip. The gas fill is
hidden behind the flip-down license plate holder. The stance of
this Mopar is just perfect as it sits atop 14" Kelsey Hayes Magnum
500-style wheels wrapped in white-letter BF Goodrich Radial
TA's.
When you lift the big yellow hood - prepare to be impressed! This
unbelievably clean body-color engine bay is home to a
numbers-matching 383ci 6.3 liter V-8 that's just waiting to go show
you what it can do. This 383 block is topped off with 906 heads, an
OEM intake manifold, a Carter 4-barrel carburetor, and a correct
air cleaner with a "383 Road Runner Engine" decal on top. The
block, heads, valve covers, intake, and water pump have all been
recently repainted in bright orange and it looks awesome. The big
V-8 is mated up to a Chrysler 727 3-speed automatic transmission
(dated 1971) that sends power to the pavement via an 8 " rear axle
with 3.91:1 gears. Exhaust flows through clean OEM HP manifolds,
newer pipes, and flowmaster mufflers before exiting the rear with a
heavenly rumble that's bound to turn heads. Stopping power is
credited to 4-wheel drum brakes that do a better-than-expected job
of bringing this beast to a standstill. Other highlights under the
hood include a new under-hood heat mat, Chrysler electronic
ignition, an original fender tag, power steering, and the iconic
"Beep-Beep" horn that everyone loves.
Swing open the drivers door and the dome courtesy light comes on to
reveal a jaw-droppingly nice black stock interior. Door panels are
OEM-simplistic with armrests, window cranks, and a drivers-side
mirror toggle. Both the front and rear bench seats are dressed in
factory-correct black vinyl in excellent condition. The quality
black hook and loop carpet looks like it was installed in the
recent past. Overhead are a nice tight black vinyl headliner and
shoulder safety belts for the front passengers. The driver is
treated to a a wood 3-spoke (optional) steering wheel with a
"Beep-Beep" centercap on a fixed column. Also on the column is a
shifter and indicator for the automatic transmission. Ahead of the
wheel is a crack-free black vinyl dash with working lights and
gauges. There are gauges for Alt, Fuel, and Temp as well as a
120mph speedometer. The odometer reads 29,354 miles and the title
states those miles are actual! Below the gauges to the left are
controls for the lights and to the right are controls for the
working wipers. In the center of the dash is a factory AM radio
that powers up but only seems to produce static. Above the radio on
the underside of the dashpad are controls for the working heat and
fan. Ahead of the passenger are a couple of "bird" decals and a
"road runner" badge above the flip-up glovebox door. Around back in
the clean trunk you'll find new weather-stripping, a plaid vinyl
mat, a bias-ply spare tire, a factory jack, and a correct jacking
instruction sticker under the lid.
