Vehicle Description
1965 Ford F100 Long Bed Pickup
Baseball, apple pie, and Ford F-series trucks, (sorry, Chevy
guys...this is a temporary alteration). The best selling vehicle in
American history and over a span of 40 years, more than 33,000,000
units have hit the street in all forms of trim levels and packages.
"Built Ford Tough" was a common advertising axiom but has been
repeated and confirmed by millions of Ford truck devotees for
generations. We've seen and sold our share at Classic Auto Mall and
welcome a steady flow of F-series goodness!
For consignment, a 1965 Ford F100 long bed pickup truck showing
5,346 miles which are not actual. This is a show quality truck
which would look equally at home on a farm as it would at the
nearest car show. Its familiar color scheme hints of quality
agricultural equipment and we can just imagine this one on a
Christmas card parked in front of a red barn with a wreath on the
nose.
Exterior
Two stage green metallic covers the truck with contrasting yellow
steel wheels capped by moon style wheel covers. The long truck is
enhanced by a ribbon trim piece that runs the shoulder line
beginning with a point on the fender and widening to form a spear
shaped detail. Wide trailer mirrors are mounted on each door and
they relate to the tow hitch in back and electric brake controller
on board. The pale yellow of the wheels is picked up on the
embossed FORD on the tailgate, just above a pair of LED lights
mounted underneath. It's the 60's so there's still plenty of chrome
on the truck including the eggcrate grille, straight bumpers front
and rear, rain guards, and polished trim that's found on the tail
lights, windows, emblems, and gas cap. The bed is perfectly covered
in protective coating in flat black and there are tie down rails
with triangle anchor rings on each, as well as a covered spare
tire. Some missing paint under the tailgate is the only
imperfection we find on the exterior.
Interior
Contrasting the green paint on the inner doors is a black vinyl
panel with vertical stitch design and door and window hardware, and
below is a black plastic access panel and speaker, neat and clean.
Black vinyl bucket seats are covered with black sheepskins, the
only thing that diverts from the tidy presentation of the truck. A
wood rimmed steering wheel has three polished spokes that mirror
the shine of the instrument cluster panel which houses a series of
white faced Dolphin gauges. The rest of the dash is glossy green
save for the engraved wooden Ford plaque where the radio would be.
On the floors, a tough looking black shifter rests on the black
rubber mat that covers the entire floor. The black palette
continues on the ceiling where a textured black vinyl headliner
finishes the interior.
Drivetrain
Finned Cobra valve covers highlight a clean engine under the hood,
a 390ci V8 topped with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor.
It's mated to a C6 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to
the Ford 9" in back with 3.70 gears. Headers begin the exhaust
process and power brakes are supplied as front discs and rear
drums.
Undercarriage
The clean underside is a welcome sight, exhibiting minimal surface
rust and only residual fluid on the transmission pan. A hefty
driveshaft runs between the dual exhaust which flows through
FlowMaster mufflers and a pair of FlowMaster FlowFX. just past the
rear axle where short tailpipes terminate under the bed canted
towards the ground. Suspension consists of radius arms and coil
springs up front and leaf springs in the rear.
Drive-Ability
In "One Step Up," Springsteen sings, "Went out and hopped in my old
Ford, hit the engine but she ain't turnin'.". Well, Bruce should
have hopped in this Ford because we prime the carb and turn the key
and she starts right up! Into Drive we go and roll this good
looking rig onto the test loop where it delivers good power,
straight tracking, and great visibility out of the curved
windshield, three windows, and big mirrors. Simple design and no
frills bells and whistles results in a 100% score on our
functionality test. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
It's not only a good running truck, but a picturesque example of
American working utility at its best. Display it, tow with it, rent
it to a film company for a movie set in the 60's. No matter what
you do with it, you'll be the proud owner of a well sorted, great
looking truck that benefits from a newer wire harness, tie rods,
bushings, and alignment. Ford's finest is ready to go!
