This 1950 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 Futuramic Convertible was produced
at GMs Lansing, Michigan, facility and wears an older refurbishment
that included a repaint in red in addition to reupholstery of the
bench seats in red leather. Powered by a 303ci Rocket V8 paired
with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, the car has a
replacement black soft top, 15 wheels, an electric fuel pump,
seatbelts, manually operated windows, chrome bumpers, a left-side
mirror, a boot cover, and an AM radio. The car was repainted in the
current shade of red under prior ownership, and additional details
include a Rocket hood ornament, rear wheel skirts, a boot cover, a
left-side mirror, and aviation-inspired trim. Records indicate the
windshield wiper motor and the convertible top valve, cylinder, and
motor have been rebuilt, the chrome on the front bumper, grille,
hood ornament, and turn signal covers has been re-plated, and the
convertible top, rear bumper, trunk emblem, and weatherstripping
have been replaced. The 15 wheels wear bright hubcaps and are
mounted with whitewall tires. A full-size spare is stored in the
trunk, and braking is handled by drums at all four corners.
Replacement tires were fitted and the wheel cylinders, sway bar end
links and bushings, and three brake hoses have been replaced,
according to documentation highlighted in the gallery. The front
and rear bench seats are said to have been reupholstered with red
leather under prior ownership, and they are complemented by
color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Aftermarket seatbelts
have been fitted, and additional appointments include manually
operated windows, and a rebuilt AM radio. The three-spoke steering
wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a sweeping 110-mph
speedometer as well as auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer
shows 2,900 miles, and total mileage is unknown. The dashboard
lights were repaired in February 2024. The 303ci Rocket V8 was
introduced by Oldsmobile in 1949, replacing the straight-eight that
had powered earlier models. Factory-rated output was 135
horsepower, and features included a Rochester two-barrel
carburetor, hydraulic lifters, a counterweighted forged crankshaft,
and aluminum pistons. A replacement battery was installed in 2024
and an electric fuel pump has been fitted. Records indicate the
fuel pump was rebuilt and the water pump, starter solenoid and
armature, fuel sending unit, coolant temperature switch, fuel tank,
and radiator and heater hoses have been replaced. Power is sent to
the rear wheels through a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic
transmission, which was rebuilt in March 2024. Additional photos of
the underside are provided in the gallery. For more information and
