Vehicle Description
While the Cobra may get the lion's share of attention when it comes
to Carroll Shelby's creations, it behooves enthusiasts everywhere
to remember that his venomous roadster was not the only ungodly
powerful V-8 muscle car. The GT500KR was originally created for the
1968 model year by the godfather of Ford performance to prove that
his collaboration with the Blue Oval could produce a true top-tier
performance car for the street. Fast forward forty years, and we
come to this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR. With just 6,583
miles on its odometer, this car was purchased new in 2010 and looks
almost as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line.
Inside, we find a near-mint black leather interior that sports an
SVT gauge cluster, Ford Racing short-throw shifter, power windows,
mirrors, locks, and seats. A Shaker 1000 sound system features ten
Audiophile speakers, four subwoofers, a six-disc in-dash CD
changer, MP3 capability, and satellite radio connectivity, provides
almost as much excitement as the serialized and signed Shelby dash
plaque commemorating this car's rare existence.
Under the hood, this special edition GT500 proves why it is truly
the King of the Road. A hand-built supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC V-8
that has been upgraded with Ford Racing's Power Pack, providing
upgraded calibrations for air, fuel, and ignition, model-specific
X-pipe and dual exhaust, as well as a cold-air intake designed to
make the most of the KR's dual-nostril scooped hood. Pumping out a
massive 540 horsepower at 6,250 RPM and 510 pound-feet of torque at
1,500 rpm, the KR puts down 40 more ponies than the base GT500.
That ginormous power is then funneled through a Tremec six-speed
manual transmission before heading out to the 3.73:1-geared
ten-bolt rear end. From there, a set of 18-inch ten-spoke wheels
shod in this car's original Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires
measuring 285/40R-18 in back, while narrower 255/45R-18 units
handle steering responsibilities upfront.
