Vehicle Description
Flashy Buick Riveira sedan in great colors. Factory A/C.
Strong-running Nailhead V8 with legendary Dynaflow transmission.
Upgraded with power front disc brakes and modern stereo. A big,
comfortable, and surprisingly fast Buick for a very reasonable
price! For reasons that aren't altogether clear, the big Buicks and
Oldsmobiles don't have the same value as a lesser 1957 Chevy.
Sentimentality is probably one reason, but the fact is, this 1957
Buick Super Riviera sedan represents a LOT more car for the money
than a comparable Chevy 4-door. Starting with the dramatic
pillarless hardtop styling, this full-sized Buick looks long, low,
and sleek?it's pretty much the anti-sedan sedan. Sweepspear styling
makes it every bit as interesting as a Bel Air, and there's
wonderful detailing throughout, from the fine-toothed grille to the
four 'venti-ports' on the front fenders, to the wonderful Super
script nestled into the crook of the side trim. The flashy Garnet
Red and Dover White paint job certainly helps this Super live up to
its name, and the finish quality is quite good. It's an older
restoration but it's holding up great, and all four doors close
with a solid sound suggesting quality. Che chrome was all
refinished?an important consideration on an '50s car you may be
thinking of buying?and the distinctive wrap-around front and rear
windscreens are in excellent shape. And check out the combination
spotlight/rear-view mirror on the driver's side! From any angle,
this is a really good-looking car.The spacious interior is big
enough for six to sit comfortably and that long 127-inch wheelbase
insures plenty of legroom in back?try that with your '57 Chevy! The
red and white upholstery matches the bodywork and looks quite
correct in a 1950s cruiser like this. The seats are comfortable
enough for long drives and with options like factory A/C, a power
seat, and a fully array of gauges, getting there is more than half
the fun. Notable upgrades include a modern Pioneer head unit
expertly installed under the dash with speakers throughout the
interior, vintage-looking seat belts, plus an accessory tissue
dispenser over on the passenger side of the dash. Even the factory
clock is working! There are plush carpets with plenty of
sound-deadening materials underneath to make this Buick suitably
hushed on the road and we have to admit we're relieved to see crank
windows instead of the problematic power units. The headliner might
just be original and in very good condition, while the massive
trunk has been upholstered with matching red carpets for a finished
look.1957 Buicks got a big upgrade in the horsepower department
with a bigger 364 cubic inch V8, affectionately called the
'Nailhead.' Known for its prodigious torque output, this engine is
impeccably smooth but moves the massive Super with relative ease,
making it feel energetic out on the road. There's plenty of recent
service work, including the installation of a modern dual reservoir
master cylinder, power brake booster, and front disc brakes for
added confidence on the road. Power steering was standard
equipment, and makes this a car anyone can drive. The engine bay is
tidy if not detailed for show, but we can't argue with the way this
one runs and drives. The Dynaflow automatic transmission makes it
feel like it could accelerate forever, yet with 3.07 gears out
back, it's completely relaxed at today's highway speeds. The dual
exhaust system has a nice V8 burble but never gets intrusive
(that's now how a Buick behaves) and the ride is pillowy soft, as
you'd expect. The floors and rockers are quite solid with no
visible patching or other issues, and we can find no evidence that
this car was ever wrecked or damaged. Recent shocks help with the
ride quality and it sits on factory wheels and hubcaps with recent
225/75/15 wide whitewall radials that are the perfect finishing
touch.Extras include a full set of 1957 factory service
manuals.Look at the car, the features, the upgrades, and then take
another look at the price. You couldn't get a garden-variety Chevy
for this price and even if you could, it would be smaller, less
powerful, and with fewer luxury options. Perhaps it's time to
consider a Buick, because once you do, we suspect you won't want
anything else. Call today!Harwood Motors always recommends and
