Porsche is famously known for having a rich design history and
drawing upon their lineage of historic sports cars in order to
inject retro design with modern capabilities. The Sport Classic
name, first introduced in 2009 with the 997, drew inspiration from
the color Dolphin Grey in the Porsche 356 era to create Sport
Classic Grey, and the rear ducktail from the acclaimed 2.7 RS from
the early 1970s. The Turbo widebody, at the time exclusively for
all-wheel drive and turbo cars, added stance to the 997 along with
several other design callbacks that made it an instant classic. For
the 992, Porsche decided to take that same motorsports formula and
let the designers in Stuttgart extend farther than before, yielding
this car: the 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic.
The 2023 Sport Classic is an exercise in making the best driving
dynamics with styling to match. Limited to only 1,250 examples
worldwide, the Sport Classic instantly became a classic. With a 542
horsepower 3.7L twin-turbo engine paired to a 7-speed manual
transmission, the only transmission offered, power is sent to the
rear wheels only, a callback to the original Porsche 911 Turbo
first launched in 1974. Throwbacks to previous 911s include the use
of wood trim on the dashboard, a two-tone black and cognac leather
interior, pepita fabric inserts, analog RPM and sport chrono
gauges, and of course the signature ducktail spoiler over the
engine in the rear.
Just because the Sport Classic is retro-minded, doesn't mean that
it was lacking in the technology department. As a part of Porsche's
continual melding of past and present, each Sport Classic was
heavily optioned from the Porsche factory with the most popular
options. This included 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats with heating,
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control,
Rear Axle Steering, Front Axle Lift, LED-Matrix headlights in black
with PDLS, Sports Seats with leather backs, Extended Dashboard and
door panels in leather, and more. Customers could opt for a small
range of additional options, though many found the standard
equipment to be more than adequate. All in all, all Sport Classics
were 911s primed to be the best driving rear-wheel drive car
offered by Porsche and unsurprisingly, they were met with critical
acclaim amongst owners and the automotive press.
This 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic was produced in May of 2023,
with its first and only owner taking possession of the car at the
end of July of 2023. Spec'd through Porsche's Paint-to-Sample
program, a beautiful Racing Green Metallic was chosen to coat the
bodywork, a $12,830 option. In addition to the long list of
standard equipment, the Sport Classic was spec'd with over $30,000
in options, heavily optioned in comparison to most deliveries. This
includes a high-end Burmester Surround Sound System, Protection
Film - Front, Night Vision Assist, Lane Keep Assist (LKA),
including Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View, Lightweight and
Noise Insulated Glass, Lane Change Assist (LCA), Pedals and
Footrest in Aluminum, Power Folding Mirrors, Ionizer, Power
Steering Plus, Under Door Puddle Light Projectors, Ambient
Lighting, Exclusive Design Tail Lights, Sun Visors in Race Tex,
Exterior Mirror Base in Exterior Color, Individual Limitation
Number, Inner Door Sill Guards in Leather, Personal Start Number,
Exterior Silver Accent Package, Storage Package, Preparation for
Porsche Dashcam (front and rear), and a fire extinguisher.
The single owner, also owning a Porsche 918, took delivery and
added only 373 miles to the odometer during his ownership. As the
Sport Classic was a part of a much larger collector car collection,
it remained in garage-kept pristine condition for a future
owner.
Upon arriving at Canepa, the Sport Classic was looked over
thoroughly by Canepa's technicians. With only 373 miles since its
original delivery, the 911 is essentially in new as-delivered
condition as it rolled off the showroom floor. Now ready for its
next owner, the 911 Sport Classic is one of the great modern
symphonies by Porsche. With unmatched style, true enthusiast
performance through rear wheel drive and a 7-speed manual, and in
stunning PTS Racing Green Metallic with a fully-loaded options
list, this Sport Classic is and will remain a classic for decades
to come.
