Vehicle Description
This 1948 Buick Super Estate Wagon, affectionately known as the
"Woodie," is currently offered for sale. With the VIN 51099595 and
DGC9595 registration number, it boasts a gray exterior complemented
by patterned gray upholstery. Powering this classic vehicle is a
248ci Fireball straight-eight engine, seamlessly connected to a
column-shifted three-speed manual transmission.
The Woodie's distinctive features include exterior wood paneling, a
vinyl roof covering, rear fender skirts, whitewall tires, a
Venti-heater, a Borg electric clock, and a push-button AM radio.
Notably, it is said to have been purchased new in Ohio and
subsequently owned by a single family before being acquired by the
current owner in early 2023.
Since late 2022, the vehicle underwent meticulous restoration
efforts. These improvements included the rebuilding of the
generator and master cylinder, overhauling the rear brakes, and the
replacement of the exhaust manifold, gaskets, voltage regulator,
condenser, and points.
The Woodie is now presented in pristine condition, complete with
manufacturer's literature, refurbishment photographs, and a clean
Washington title.
Previously repainted, the Hercules-bodied wagon retains its gray
exterior, with darker accents on the hood. Additional distinctive
features include wood paneling, a vinyl roof covering, a hood
ornament, a vertical-bar grille adorned with "Buick Eight"
lettering, chrome bumpers with overriders, and "Super" script on
the airfoil-style front fenders. The vehicle also features a
two-piece windshield, rear fender skirts, polished gravel guards,
and dual side mirrors.
While the vehicle appears in excellent condition, minor cosmetic
imperfections are evident, including dents on the side trim and
right-rear quarter panel, a pitted exhaust finisher, a scratched
left-front fender, and additional paint blemishes as depicted in
the accompanying photo gallery.
The Super Estate is equipped with 15-inch steel wheels adorned with
chrome trim rings and Buick-branded hubcaps. These wheels are
mounted on Goodyear Arriva whitewall tires. The vehicle's
suspension system comprises an independent front suspension, a
solid rear axle, and coil springs at all four corners. Braking is
provided by hydraulically assisted four-wheel drums, with the rear
brakes having undergone overhaul in 2023.
The cabin boasts two rows of bench seating upholstered in gray
vinyl with patterned cloth inserts. Additional features include a
stained-wood roof, door trim panels, and pillars. The Venti-heater,
Borg electric clock, windshield-mounted compass, lap belts, and
push-button AM radio are also present.
The black steering wheel features a necker knob and a chrome horn
ring and is positioned in front of a 120-mph speedometer flanked by
a pair of combination gauges that monitor battery status, coolant
temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The chrome gauge bezels
are pitted. The five-digit odometer indicates 38,000 miles, with
approximately 250 miles added since current ownership. The total
mileage is unknown.
The 248ci Fireball inline-eight engine is equipped with a single
downdraft carburetor and a blue-finished intake manifold and valve
cover. The condenser, points, exhaust manifold, and exhaust and
intake manifold gaskets were replaced in 2023.
Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a column-shifted
three-speed manual transmission.
