For Sale: 1971 BMW 1600 in Huntington Station, New York
-Silver with Black Upholstery, White houndstooth seating inserts,
Black carpeting, Black folding soft top and Black top boot. 2.0
Liter 4 cylinder (M10) engine, 5-Speed (Getrag 245) gearbox,
restored with upgrades.
This BMW 1600 left the factory finished in Polaris Silver (060). It
was refinished in silver as part of a 1980s refurbishment that took
place in Europe. Imported from the Europe to the US in 2003, and
was subsequently fitted with a modified 2.0-liter M10 inline-four
cylinder engine, a five-speed manual gearbox, a limited-slip
differential, a Weber carburetor, and aftermarket suspension
components.
The replacement 2.0-liter M10 inline-four features an E30
M3-specification starter motor, an E12-specification cylinder head,
an Ireland Engineering 284 camshaft, Mahle 9.5:1 pistons, Pauter
connecting rods, a Lynx intake manifold with a Weber 45DCOE
side-draft carburetor, a 123ignition Bluetooth-enabled distributor
and aftermarket exhaust headers.
In 2019 this BMW received the following upholstery and trim work,
the front bucket seats and the rear bench seat were reupholstered
in black vinyl with black and white houndstooth inserts (with
matching sunvisors) and a replacement black soft top was
fitted.
Additionally fitted with a Petri three-spoke sport steering wheel,
E21 turbine-style 13? alloy wheels are mounted, Kumho 975 Touring
AVS tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes in
addition to rear drum brakes sourced from an E21 model. The
suspension has been modified with ST springs, Bilstein dampers,
urethane anti-roll bar end link bushings and additional work under
previous ownership included replacing the following components:
Anti-roll bars, Track rod, Tie rods, Ball joints, Rear subframe
mounts, Differential mount bushings and Lower control arms.
Striking color combination, a rare car in its own right (less than
1700 cars produced), in excellent condition throughout, plus
tasteful upgrades, truly make this a unique opportunity. Ready for
its next caretaker to use and enjoy.
