Pontiac Historical documented, factory born Iris Mist GTO! It's
been body off frame restored, I'm very impressed with this one.
Fit, finish and function are excellent. There's a lot more than
meets the eye with this sleeper!
EXTERIOR: Let's address the color first because everyone that sees
the car asks: "is that a factory color?" Yes, it is called Iris
Mist. It's a one year only color and this one was born this way
proven by the PHS documents and the original cowl tag. The body is
meant I believe this to be a rust free car It's laser straight even
those flat quarter panels Everything fits square, the doors shut
nicely. The paint is laid out evenly and polished to a glass
finish. Up front the stacked headlights have new chrome bezels, the
bumper was rechromed and the grills are in very good shape. The
stainless trim is polished and straight. The emblems have been
replaced; the rear bumper is rechromed. I've always loved that
sleek taillight and tail panel combination. It has good original
glass with a new windshield. Weatherstrips and seals were replaced.
The 15 inch rims are painted body color with a mint set of poverty
hubcaps. It is wearing some new Cooper tires, extra fat in
back.
INTERIOR: Completely restored floor to ceiling. Reproduction
upholstery and door panels, the armrests, handles and cranks were
replaced. Down on the floor the carpet was replaced, it has deluxe
pedal trim and a factory console in very good shape with a new
Hurst shifter sticking out of it. It also has optional seat belts
in front. You'll be looking at a new deluxe wheel and a restored
dash with a new optional dash pad, Rallye gauges including a
tachometer. The original radio is in place, glovebox liner is new,
and it has a grab handle that the passenger will be hanging on to
when that throttle is punched! The headliner was replaced and it
has a working dome light.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It may look stock but that's a Butler built 467
making 500 HP! The Edelbrock intake is camouflaged in Pontiac blue,
it also has a dual feed Holley carb, HEI ignition and a set of
headers. It has power steering and the brake master cylinder has
been upgraded with a dual reservoir. The radiator, although painted
black, is an upgraded aluminum unit. Everything in here is so neat
and proper. The components look fresh, all the metal surfaces are
painted smooth, the chrome on the engine is sparkling. The battery
is secured, washers are hooked up, wires are run neatly.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted
smooth Iris Mist. Inside is rock solid with neatly applied spatter
finish and a two piece reproduction mat. A matching cover is over
the spare, it comes with a jack and lug wrench.
UNDERSIDE: It has been body off the frame restored. It is extremely
clean under this car and has some nice performance upgrades. The
front end steering and suspension was completely rebuilt, upgraded
with a Hotchkis sway bar and Bilstein gas shocks. In back it has a
complete Hotchkis Sport Suspension kit which includes tubular
control arms, a swaybar and Bilstein gas shocks. It has a custom
exhaust; oh this car sounds sweet! Fat pipes have an x-pipe in the
middle, Hooker mufflers and factory splitter tips. The brake system
has been completely redone, upgraded to disc in the front and the
e-brake is hooked up. The fuel system was replaced including the
tank. Looking up at the motor it is spotless Pontiac blue and has a
high torque starter. A heavy duty scatter shield connects to the
upgraded Tremec 5-speed transmission and a rebuilt driveshaft leads
back to a 12 bolt posi rear end. The metal under this car is
pristine! The frame, chassis parts, and the floors are as smooth as
a chalkboard. It is completely rust free and neatly painted a
semi-gloss black.
SERVICE: We closely inspect each of our cars and on this GTO we
replaced the headlamp, fixed the horn, lubed the speedometer cable,
replaced the blower motor and the brake light switch, installed
door bumpers, adjusted rear window, tightened the front wheel
bearings and reattached e-brake handle.
I have a really good feeling about this one! Not too often does the
car get better the closer you look like this one did. It has its
own thing going on: kind of a sleeper, I don't think anyone
realizes the performance that this car now has. And of course, the
color gets attention. The next lucky owner is going to get an
extremely clean car, it's going to be a blast to drive, and it will
get people talking.
