The Shelby Series 1 is the first and only vehicle every designed
from the ground up by Mr. Shelby himself. This was Shelby's second
chance at making a world beating sports car, and he aimed to
succeed. To that end the Series 1 was engineered with every
component maximized for performance and out right speed. The
chassis was made from extruded and formed T6061 aluminum for
strength and weight reduction. To that frame were bonded aluminum
honeycomb panels in the floors and rockers for additional torsional
rigidity. The suspension was classic race car affair, with double
wishbones with coil over shocks with remote reservoirs that were
mounted inboard and pushrod activated. Into this race car type
chassis was placed an all-aluminum, 4.0L DOHC V-8 making 320
horsepower and sending power to a rear mounted ZF 6-speed manual
transaxle. This gave the Series 1 50/50 weight distribution, as the
engine was placed behind the front axle effectively making the car
a front mid-engine automobile. Large power disc brakes at all four
corners provide excellent stopping power, and the huge 18X10 front
wheels and 18X12 rear wheels wrapped in super sticky rubber makes
this Shelby corner like a go kart. Once Carroll had designed the
chassis and driveline just the way he wanted it, he clothed in a
super sexy but modern interpretation of the original Cobra
bodywork. This time though, the body is not steel or aluminum, but
full Carbon Fiber. Like I said, race car stuff. The vents and
intakes in the body all serve a purpose, either to let air in or
heat out. Theres no trunk, because this car isn't meant to take you
on vacation. It's sole purpose is to scare the hell out of you and
make you feel alive. The Series 1 can boogey to 60mph in 4.4
seconds, dust the quarter in 12.8 seconds, and goes on to a top
speed of 170mph. Imagine 170mph with the top down, that must be
wild. The beautiful Series 1 pictured here is finished in
Centennial Silver with anthracite stripes and has the absolutely
stunning Shelby designed 18 aluminum wheels. Inside is a grey and
black interior, but unlike the original spartan Cobra, this Shelby
has A/C, power windows, power steering, power brakes, and even an
AM/FM/CD stereo system. Shelby American only produced 249 of these
beauties, and you don't see these cars available for sale every
day. This is your chance to own chassis #5061, a super clean and
well-maintained car that has been sparingly driven. Contact Brian
