Vehicle Description
1941 Ford F1 Pickup
"First on the roster of all trucks in the nation. There are more
Ford trucks on the road today than trucks of ANY other make! First
on the roll call of all trucks ever built and bought in this
country. More Fords have been made and sold than trucks of any
other make! First in horsepower per pound of gross vehicle weight,
for comparable equipment. No wonder Ford Trucks get "first call"
from operators who check closely into costs and quantity." From a
1941 print ad.
For consignment, a 1941 Ford F1 pickup with 2,140 miles shown which
are not actual. This one is a stunner and a runner, with a 396ci V8
over a Nova subframe and TracLoc in the 9" axle out back. From
under the chopped top, you'll enjoy a wonderfully clean interior
with the modern convenience of a back up camera to spare any damage
to the show quality exterior.
Exterior
It's not that red wasn't available in 1941, the color brochure from
the day proves it was. But two stage paint technology covers this
truck, so it gleams like never before. Under the prominent nose of
the big hood, the vertical strakes of the grille have been color
matched as have the headlight rings. That hood is pinstriped and
louvered leading to the narrowed windshield and chopped top, while
wide running boards contain cut outs for the exhaust on each side,
just before wide rear fenders sweep back gracefully to the edge of
the bed. Inside that bed, oak planks hopscotch over stainless
strips that are smooth rather than the typical contoured and
looking sharp. Pinstriping is found throughout the exterior
including the tailgate where FORD is accentuated with silver paint.
15-inch Weld Draglites make up the racy shoes here, staggered in
depth and in tire size. Paint and metalwork is excellent with some
imperfections noted as bubbling in low areas, various scuffs and
scrapes, touched up chipped areas and scratch.
Interior
Column stitched black vinyl door cards are framed in red paint on
the neat inner doors, and the pattern is echoed on the bench seat
which is in very good condition. Greeting the driver is a Lecarra
steering wheel with Ford center cap, leading to an aluminum plate
panel housing a series of simple VDO gauges, all on a red painted
dashboard that shines as well as the outside and is so smooth, that
the backup camera monitor is suction cupped to it. The glove box
door is adorned with a pinstripe graphic while a Lokar shifter
rises from the floor covered in low pile black carpet in good
shape, and it's all under a smooth black vinyl headliner and rear
wall covering.
Drivetrain
The clean 396ci V8 under the hood takes up much of the real estate
and is topped with a showy red air filter cover that also benefits
from pinstriping. A Holley 4-barrel fuels this beast and a 700R4
4-speed transmission lets her rip, sending power to the Ford 9"
rear with TracLoc. The truck is also equipped with power brakes,
front discs and rear drums.
Undercarriage
We've got very clean conditions underneath, rust free and dry and
even enhanced with a few polished components. The dual exhaust
comes from headers and tracks back to glasspack style mufflers
before heading east and west to exit under the running boards via
polished tips. We note an inboard disc brake on the driveshaft, and
a 4 link with coil overs outback along with a coil spring
arrangement in front.
Drive-Ability
The big V8 cranked to life and everyone in the building knew it as
the exhaust note sets off an impressive tone. The tidy cabin is a
fine space, and a touch of the gas propels this red flyer onto the
test loop where power is obvious, a slightly raked stance provides
good forward visibility, and the truck tracks straight and handles
well, begging for a burn out but we decline the invitation. Simple
functionality leads to a high percentage of working items, in this
case 100%. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
