1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 454 - Matching Numbers
By 1970, the Chevelle had already captured Chevy enthusiasts'
hearts, and this year's design and performance changes only
deepened the love affair. The 1970 model year saw an edgier body
introduced with a more squared-up stance, a striking contrast to
the flowing curves of the 1969 model. The SS option was
meaningfully enhanced with expanded offerings, allowing buyers to
choose between the legendary 396 or the monstrous 454 cubic inch
V8. SS models received the aggressive "power dome" hood, a
black-accented grille, and matching rear bumper insert. Sport
wheels were equipped with wide-oval tires that filled the wells
perfectly. There was no doubt with the introduction of the 1970
Chevelle SS that this car was destined to become a legend.
Produced at the Kansas City, MO plant and originally delivered new
by Mystery Lake Motors in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada, this 1970
Chevelle SS is powered by its matching-numbers LS6 454ci/450hp
Turbo-Jet V8 - the most powerful production engine Chevrolet
offered that year - tied to an M22 Muncie Rock Crusher 4-speed
manual transmission. The build sheet reads like a muscle car
enthusiast's dream: 12-bolt differential, Holley 4-barrel
carburetor, Winters aluminum intake, solid lifter cam, dual
exhaust, ZL2 cowl-induction hood, RPO Z15 SS package, added engine
chrome, bright exhaust tips, power front disc brakes, and
heavy-duty suspension. Added power steering makes this beast
surprisingly civilized on the road.
The exterior is finished in its correct Classic White with black SS
stripes, and every angle reveals the level of restoration,
maintenance, and care this car has received. Wheel well brightwork,
chrome bumpers, SS454 callouts, and 5-spoke SS wheels wrapped in
correct F70 14" Firestone Wide Oval white-letter tires complete an
outstanding presentation. Open the door and the contrasting correct
code 788 red vinyl Strato bucket seats with center console
immediately catch the eye - that classic red-on-white muscle car
combination that never fails to stir the soul.
What truly sets this Chevelle apart is the documentation. The car
comes with its original build sheet, original warranty card,
original new vehicle warranty, and Owner Protection Plan with
original owner's handwritten information from delivery on February
7, 1970. The original GM of Canada warranty document and GM of
Canada documentation listing every RPO code is also included -
irrefutable provenance for a true LS6 survivor.
Unless stated otherwise, mileage shown on odometer is exempt and
unknown if original.
