Vehicle Description
The Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is a unique chapter in the history of the
Jeep brand. Debuting as a 1981 1/2 model, the CJ-8 soldiered on
until the new Wrangler replaced the CJ-7 architecture in 1987, with
just under 28,000 units produced over six and half years. The CJ-8
offered the utility of a short bed pickup truck, with the off-road
prowess on the Jeep. This gave Jeep a unique presence in the pickup
truck market, as there was nothing else quite like it offered by
any other manufacturer. And while the Scrambler was only around for
a short time, it made such a mark on the automotive landscape that
Jeep saw fit to begin building a new Jeep based pickup marketed as
the Gladiator in 2019.The 1983 model CJ-8 Scrambler pictured here
for sale is a unique and somewhat modernized version of the CJ-8,
and addresses the shortcomings of the original model. AMC never saw
fit to put a V8 in the Scrambler, and the 4.2L inline six that was
the biggest factory optional engine left something to be desired.
This CJ-8 rectifies this with a 360CI AMC V-8 under the hood.
Combined with the short geared factory four speed manual
transmission, the V8 gives this little pickup that could the
performance it should have had from the factory. Other performance
enhancements include an Edelbrock Pro-Flo fuel injection system on
a high-rise aluminum intake manifold, full MSD ignition, headers,
and a dual exhaust system that gives this truck a beefy exhaust
note to match the looks. Speaking of looks, this Scrambler has been
completely refinished in a gorgeous basecoat/clearcoat metallic
black that gives a shine a mile deep. The beautiful chrome grille,
bumpers, and wheels are the perfect offset for the black paint and
really give this Jeep an amazing look. Aftermarket side steps make
entry and egress a breeze, and the beautifully finished wood on the
bed sides lend a little classic truck vibe to this Jeep. On the
inside this Jeep continues to shine with newly recovered and
re-foamed deluxe seats, crisp new gauges, a lockable center
console, and a custom Bluetooth stereo that maintains the classic
looks in the dash. This Jeep comes fully equipped for daily driver
duties with ice cold air conditioning, power steering, and power
brakes making this an easy truck to drive. The underside of this
Jeep is super clean and rust free, with new Rancho shocks and
polyurethane bushings throughout. Beefy solid axles front and rear
along with meaty Goodyear Wrangler rubber mean that this Jeep is
ready to tackle any terrain you can throw at it. This Scrambler
looks great, sounds amazing, and is ready to rock and roll. Don't
