Factory colors! Try finding another one! Plus it has the #'s
matching engine, trans, rear and is documented by Pontiac
Historical Services. Invest and have fun at the same time. Purely
iconic!
Motortrend named the 1968 Pontiac GTO it's car of the year,
recognizing its engineering, styling, market timing, automotive
concept, and mechanical achievement. The GTO was also considered a
defining muscle car of its era with its unique design and powerful
engine. It's time to rediscover this illustrious vehicle all over
again!
EXTERIOR: Born Starlight black, and boy does it look good! The
fresh looking paint is beautifully laid out then polished to a
glass like finish. When looking down the side of the body it is
straight as an arrow with smooth contours and crisp lines. The
panels were nicely aligned with very consistent gaps that are above
average. The doors close easily with minimal effort. It is claimed
to have original metal, after inspecting it I would agree. The
body, floors and in the trunk are dry metal. The front grille and
headlight bezels look fantastic. The rubber front bumper does not
have any cracks. The rear bumper was rechromed and the remaining
trim has a lustrous shine. The vinyl top is in great shape and was
white from the factory, but the previous owner liked black better.
It's sitting pretty on Pontiac 14" Rally II wheels wrapped in BFG
tires.
INTERIOR: Wow, the red really pops! This car has got some serious
eye appeal! It was red from the factory, verified by the original
trim tag and PHS docs. It is restored to original with recovered
bucket seats and a Hurst 4 speed manual shifter in the very handy
center console. Deluxe seatbelts front and back. The rear bench was
also recovered to match. The door panels, visors and carpeting were
all replaced. The headliner was replaced and has some wrinkles, the
dome light works! The dash pad is not cracked. The gauges, bezel,
steering column and wheel appear to be extremely nice originals.
Even the original am radio is in place, bonus: it has it's original
8-track player ready to be put back in! That's a cool conversation
piece.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has its original 400 cubic inch, high output
engine bringing the horsepower from 350 to 360 with a hotter cam
and ram air exhaust manifolds. Correct casting dates and codes on
block, heads and intake. The block has a matching VIN # and the
unit # matches the PHS docs and even the correct WS code. The
original, rebuilt Quadrajet carburetor, correct chrome valve
covers, and air cleaner assembly are an added bonus. Nicely
equipped with optional power steering and power brakes. Under the
hood, fender wells and firewall are all neatly painted satin black.
Overall, it is a clean and proper motor compartment.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and jamb are both
painted body color. The weatherstrip was replaced. Inside the pan
metal is all solid and rust free with neatly applied spatter finish
paint.
UNDERSIDE: The underneath of this car looks very clean. The first
thing I noticed was the chassis components and floors are very dry,
rust-free metal. They've been prepped and painted black to look
good. The steering was rebuilt. The springs and shocks were
replaced. The rubber body mounts were also replaced. It has a fresh
dual exhaust system with Dynomax mufflers. The brake system is
functioning properly, and the e-brake assembly is hooked up too.
Looking up at the motor it is very clean Pontiac blue, the starter
looks new. It has its original Muncie 4-speed transmission and 10
bolt rear end with 3.55 gears.
SERVICE: After our thorough inspection we fixed the reverse lights,
interior lights, horn, and front turn signals. We also replaced the
u-joints and glovebox liner.
Eye catching colors! That's what really makes this GTO so special.
The fact that it also retains #'s matching engine, transmission and
rear end transform it to investment grade status. Seems like
everything those Pontiac engineers touch, turns to great!
For nearly 30 years, I, Jay Grams, have personally written the
highlights for almost every car in our collection. What I provide
is my professional opinion based on my experience with these
vehicles. However, opinions can vary, and I strongly recommend a
personal inspection to form your own view. Our sales team is always
available to answer any questions you may have. One great option is
to request a personalized walk-around video, where we can showcase
the car and share our team's insights. **Our cars are displayed
within a museum setting. If you are interested in a specific
vehicle, please schedule an appointment with a salesperson to view
it. Without an appointment, there is an admission fee to enter the
showroom. If you decide to purchase a car, your admission will be
refunded, and you'll receive a one-year museum membership.
