Vehicle Description
2003 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
Thirty six years into production and fourth generation, the Mustang
was still a popular car. In 2001, more than 176,000 were produced
and in 2002, it would be the lone survivor of American muscle/pony
cars as the Camaro and Firebird were discontinued. The fourth gen
Mustangs would last until 2004 when the fifth generation would
introduce a redesign that would increase the car's size among other
changes.
For consignment, a 2003 Ford Mustang GT couple with a title
verified 33,152 actual miles, a proverbial time capsule with some
Shelby and Mach I influence that make it stand out from the other
26,955 hardtop GT's produced in 2003.
Exterior
Redfire Metallic covers this pony car with two stage shine,
enhanced by a black hood stripe, black wing, and Shelby rocker
stripes. The hood is clearly aftermarket, with a shaker hood scoop
similar to the Mach I and two cowl facing intake ducts. Above that,
a Shelby windshield banner looms large, while on the decklid, a
Shelby emblem accompanies a Saleen type number, (48), and a
blackened rear valance. 17-inch Magnum 500 wheels, which resemble
Mach I wheels, wear 45 series tires and appear to be in great shape
while chrome tips split wide in the back. The paint and taped
stripes are in very nice condition with the only imperfection being
scrapes on the bottom side of the chin spoiler.
Interior
Standard issue plastic door panels include a carpeted kick panel
and embedded speaker in a very good design. Bucket seats are
wrapped in charcoal leather with tuck and roll patterned inserts
and a running horse embroidered on the seat back. The same material
covers the 2+2 seats in back which look like they may have never
been used. A beefy sports steering wheel fronts a silver lined
instrument cluster with a vacuum gauge and clock flanking the main
cluster like dual exhaust and black faced gauges behind plexiglass
include other essential information. In the center stack, a three
dial climate panel tops an AM/FM/CD radio while a silver knobbed
shifter lives in the center console. Low pile black carpet is on
the floor and a soft gray headliner is up above. The trunk is
relatively clean and finished in gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a clean 4.6 liter SOHC V8, fuel injected and
rated at 260 horsepower. It has an aftermarket shaker hood kit and
is backed by a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission sending
power to the Ford 8.8" rear with 3.27 gears and TracLoc. Power disc
brakes are found on all four corners.
Undercarriage
There's surface rust throughout the bottom which is not unusual and
it's otherwise clean and dry with no apparent errant fluids
anywhere. Dual exhaust runs through FlowMaster mufflers before
heading out and suspension consists of coil springs in front and a
4 link with coil springs in back.
Drive-Ability
This low mileage GT has a welcoming interior and nice driving
position. The 4.6 rumbles to life and we take a spin in this red
coupe where it provides nice acceleration, straight tracking, and
excellent handling. Shifts are crisp and visibility is great even
with the wing in our rear view mirror. Meanwhile, all functions
operated as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that
these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
This stand out GT pays homage to some Mustang legends with some
personalized add ons that don't hurt the design or performance of
the car. In fact, we think it enhances an already great looking car
and the special edition insignias will make for an interesting
story, especially if you can find cars 1 through 47. A clean low
mileage GT that won't break the bank and would make a great driver
or your kid's first car, but he or she is going to need to learn to
shift. Before long, they'll be driving the Camry and you'll be back
in the GT!
