1986 was a momentous year for Jeep. It ended production of the
venerable CJ and it replaced the off-roader with the
first-generation Wrangler, which went on sale for 1987. Called YJ
internally, the original Wrangler kept its predecessor's silhouette
but received a redesigned front end characterized by square
headlights and an improved interior. Production ended in 1995, and
Jeep hasn't launched another square-eyed Wrangler since.
Power comes from a 4.2-liter inline-6, rated at 112 horsepower and
210 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear or all 4 wheels
through a 5-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer
case.
