Vehicle Description
This 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 is a super fun driving car with an
absolutely stellar look! When the Ford Motor Company debuted the
Fairlane during the 1955 model year, it was Ford's top-of-the-line,
full-size passenger car, replacing the Crestline line atop Ford's
hierarchy. For the next decade the Ford Fairlane was cemented in
Ford's passenger car lineup, albeit as Ford's mid-size platform;
larger than the Falcon and Mustang, but slightly shorter than the
entry-level Custom line or premium Galaxie 500 lines. When the 1965
Ford Fairlane was introduced, it was offered at three pricing
levels, the Fairlane Six, the Fairlane V8, and the top-of-the-line
Fairlane 500, and they were touted in Ford's marketing materials as
"big-car comfort with nimble handling and luxury." The '65 Fairlane
was also the first major re-design on the Fairlane since 1962,
producing a brand new look from nearly every angle. Up front, the
hood featured a slight peak in the middle that swept over the top
of a new-look horizontal grille and a pair of dual headlights on
each side. On the sides, new sheet metal gave the '65 Fairlane a
more contoured, modern look from essentially the belt line all the
way down. New rear end treatment was highlighted by a brand new
rectangular taillight design with chrome crosshair accents
incorporated into the lenses, and interestingly, the first time the
Fairlane used a rectangular taillight in its 10 year history up
until that point. Being that the Fairlane 500 models were the top
trim level for the Fairlane, the differences could be seen both
inside and out. The exterior of the '65 Fairlane 500 featured
additional trim and chrome including chrome window moldings,
upgraded chrome and stainless side trim, and additional chrome trim
in the rear. The Fairlane 500 was also considerably more luxurious
inside, equipped with items such as carpeting (as opposed to rubber
floor mats), a chrome horn ring, and front and rear armrests. This
particular Fairlane 500 comes to us from a southern-based collector
who clearly took exceptionally great care of this car while under
their stewardship. Under the hood on this '65 Ford is a 289 cubic
inch V8 fed by an a pair of Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetors mounted
atop an aluminum intake manifold. The souped-up 289 V8 is backed by
a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this classic Ford an
absolute blast to take for a spin around the block. Exhaust exits
the 289 Ford power plant via a dual exhaust setup and through a
pair of MagnaFlow mufflers that generate a terrific throaty sound
out of the the rear tailpipes. Squeezing into a tight parking space
is a total breeze since this 1965 Fairlane 500 comes equipped with
power steering so tight turns feel almost effortless. This 1965
Ford Fairlane rides on a set of whitewall radial tires mounted on
painted steel wheels and accented with chrome spinner-style wire
wheel covers so you'll look great while also cruising smoothly down
the open road. The body on this '65 Ford has been refinished in
beautiful Rangoon Red paint that completes the exterior look of
this car. Like the exterior, the interior of this 1965 Ford
Fairlane 500 is absolutely stunning! The red front and rear bench
seats have been reupholstered and they look great! The red
carpeting, color-matched red door panels, padded dash, and steering
wheel all appear to be in wonderful condition and all retain a nice
stock look. Instrumentation includes a 120 MPH speedometer,
temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is finished off with an
AM radio, heater and defroster controls, and a locking glovebox.
Whether you're buying your first classic car or you're adding to
your existing Ford collection, this 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 would
make an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at
