Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful numbers
matching 1968 Corvette Convertible in wonderful condition with the
numbers matching high performance L79 327ci/350hp engine and
4-speed manual transmission. This Corvette looks fantastic and is
an excellent driver. It is finished in the beautiful and highly
desirable color combination of British Green (983) over Saddle
(421) with red-line tires. This is the correct and original color
scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured
in this ad.
Besides the correct paint and trim codes, this Corvette is "Numbers
Matching" meaning that the engine and transmission are the correct
and original units that were installed at the factory in St. Louis
in December of 1967. The last six digits of the VIN, 406641, are
stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured in this ad, and the
engine is original to the car. The transmission is also original
with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and
pictured.
We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent
opportunity to own a very desirable classic Corvette Convertible at
an unbeatable value. The high performance/high horsepower engines
like this L79 and convertible Corvettes draw a nice premium over
the standard coupe body style or the base motor cars. One could
easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase
price in years to come as the market on C3 "chrome bumper"
Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is absolutely red hot right now and on
the rise. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers,
and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this
Corvette really is.
As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We
hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come
from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give
the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and
encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car
inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We
photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel
confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the
Corvette, just give us a call.
Exterior
The British Green (983) exterior is in nice driver condition. As
one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, smooth
finish, and deep shine. The chrome and brightwork looks wonderful
overall with a brilliant finish and no pitting. The eight inch
rally wheels and center caps are in great condition with a nice
finish and no curb rash. The BF Goodrich Silvertown redline tires
have plenty of tread left and are correctly sized 225/70R15. Please
note that this Corvette has the original style 4-clip beauty rings,
not the cheap aftermarket foreign made replacements. The soft top
is in excellent condition with holes or frayed edges. The rear
window is not yellowed. There are no major imperfections that have
been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some small
touch ups, spots, and other tiny blemishes around the car that are
too faint to see in the photos, but nothing else that is really
noticeable from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the
many photos of the underside this car is very clean underneath. We
have seen no signs of corrosion around the windshield or
"birdcage." There has been a plated welded on the frame on both
sides over the key hole. We have included specific photos of the
areas most prone to rust to show how this car looks.
Window Date Codes
Please note that most of the glass on this Stingray is date coded
and original, predating the car's body build date of the December
12, 1967 (E12). Original glass is a good indication that this car
has no major accident history.
Interior
The Saddle (421) interior of the Corvette is in fantastic
condition. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are
clear. The door panels are in superb condition, there are no cracks
in the typical spot where the driver's elbow sits. Also, the door
panels sit tight and flush to the door unlike many other Corvettes
from this ear. The seats are in excellent shape with no rips,
holes, or split seams. The seat is not overly worn in the typical
spot on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. There is a
small amount of wear on the passenger side seat. The carpet is good
condition with no rips or holes. This includes the rear carpet,
which is often neglected. This car still has a Corvette specific
radio that was made just for this model. Most importantly, the dash
has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation.
This car has some interior components from a later C3 Corvette such
as the seats and door panels. The interior quarter panel trim
behind the seats is loose. The dash is in nice shape with no cracks
or sun fading. The jack is still with the car, stored correctly in
the compartment behind the passenger seat. This Corvette has never
been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of
cigarettes.
Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well,
especially for a convertible, and the excellent condition of this
interior is a testament to the meticulous care and attention this
Corvette has received throughout its life.
Mechanical
This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The
original numbers matching L79 high horsepower engine starts every
time and runs well overall. The car drives great and feels nice on
the road and at highway speeds. In the video one can observe the
car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through
all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves.
Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the
car performs quite well overall. The brakes are responsive and do
not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts great,
the shifter is tight, and does not pop out of gear or grind. The
clutch feels good. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully
clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The radio works.
Both manual vents open, close, and work properly, which is a very
common problem on early C3 Corvettes. The vacuum system raises the
headlights and wiper door. The headlights go up and work fine with
the headlight switch, but not the override switch. The wipers
themselves work, but the wiper door must be opened with the
overrides switch. Some of the fiber optics work. Occasionally, the
dash lights and tail lights will go one whenever the battery is
connected so the car may need a new headlight switch. The car has a
battery disconnect switch. The car is cold blooded and additionally
needs some tuning and carburetor adjustments to run better. The
horn and blower for the heater do not work. As one can hear in the
video, this Corvette sounds great and has a very healthy exhaust
note. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to
drive this car, especially with the extra power from the L79 engine
and the top down on a beautiful day.
A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system, we consistently
receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly
what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the
fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that the
exterior lights are working and to make the driver aware of a
burned out bulb. There is actual fiber optic cable that runs to an
indicator on the center console. When the bulb goes on the light
travels through the fiber opt...for more information please contact
