Vehicle Description
1930 Ford Model A Coupe
Hot rodding began in Southern California in the 1920s and 1930s as
a cult movement. Car clubs were formed where young men would share
knowledge, race each other, and swap parts. Hot rodding enthusiasts
come together at car clubs, car shows, and cruising events to
showcase their cars, exchange knowledge, and compete. The term "hot
rod" can be used as a noun to describe the modified car, or as a
verb to describe the act of driving a hot rod or modifying a
vehicle for speed.
For consignment, as the consignor states, this is not your
grandfather's Model A Ford. It has some nice modifications although
it manages to retain much of its original charm, only looking more
updated. Completely revamped with an original all steel body,
dropped front suspension, classic interior of leather, and some
beautiful exterior base/clear-coating for the GMC dark brown
exterior. The quintessential Hot Rod whose picture could easily
appear in the dictionary under "Hot Rod".
Exterior
Simplistic yet wonderfully designed and leading the way is a
wonderfully square knitted steel rod chromed grille shell surround
car with flanking large headlights encased in chrome and a
curvaceous bumper below arrives deep end of the pool brown
clearcoat. The hood is minus its side cowls to show the big new
350ci all chromed engine off. The curved fenders have a running
board keeping them together and these frame black 15-inch shiny
Cragar Drag Star wheels. A lighter brown painted canvas top for the
"cab" with a shiny brown metal sun visor showing in good condition.
Just below the C curved trunk on the back end of this car is a
restored rechromed set of tail lights which are just pure classic.
Quad exhaust peek out of the center below the rear roll pan and
these are protected by a chromed dual flat bar chrome bumper.
15-inch Cragar Drag Star wheels are on all 4 corners. The paint is
looking smooth and rust free all over this rod and it has a
wonderful stance on the side view!
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals some of the detailing this car has
undergone, with some stitched saddle leather well padded, and
forming a flourish panel in the center. Shiny billet cranks and
levers are within this field. As I slip inside over pristine black
carpeting, I sit upon a large overstuffed split leather bench, also
in saddle leather with tuck and roll panels. A tilt chromed column
with a Lecarra wheel in wood, fronts a custom wood grained dash
with classic instruments playing the vintage part. Also now a
snappy Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette system is residing in here as well. I
note Vintage Air and a lineup of plenty of toggles to play with
performing various functions along with the Hurst shifter. And we
are all buttoned up and ready to cruise on the interior.
Drivetrain
Under the open cowled hood we now witness a ultra chromed and
blinged Chevrolet HO 350ci V8 w aluminum heads and angled plugs
making a consignor stated 345hp. On top is an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor and on back pushing power top the rear is a TH400
3-speed automatic with a shift kit. The Corvette rear weighs in at
3.36 gear ratio.
Undercarriage
The chassis has been blasted and painted, and thefloor pans are
rust free. In front, a Heidts Mustang II style dropped front end is
installed, and in back it utilizes a C3 Corvette setup. Power
WiIwooddisc brakes are on all 4 corners. An all chromed exhaust
system is noted with headers and Cherrybomb mufflers to give the
car its growl.
Drive-Ability
Cue the Charleston music! The car starts right up and drives very
nicely. It has easy steering and the interior is very comfy with
the new upholstery. The heater blower was not working at the time
of my test drive, but all else was perfection! While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
A classic Model A built with a wonderful new updated and modernized
interior, plenty of chrome for virtually every part of the engine,
and it runs great. Undulating all steel fenders and the iconic
Model A look from the rear, what more could you ask for? Hop in and
go and show, classic hot rod style.
