Among the rarest of the open Porsche 356 is the T6 Twin Grill
Roadster, with only 248 examples produced. Single-family ownership
for the past 21 years, finished in its original color combination
of Signal Red (6211) with Black interior. Optional factory
equipment includes Michelin tires. The paintwork is in very good
overall condition, complemented by the brightwork, trim, and glass.
The upholstery is in excellent condition, with recently upholstered
front seats, German charcoal square weave carpets, a VDM wooden
steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and a cigarette lighter. The
Lemmerz 4" x 15" chrome wheels are date-coded and mounted to
Vredestein Sprint Classic tires with Super hubcaps. The
undercarriage remains in very good condition and is solid and
rust-free.
In December of 1995, $15,000 was spent on an extensive service
conducted by EKG Motor Service, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas. The
service included a top-end engine rebuild, the transmission was
resealed, and a complete rebuild of the suspension and braking
systems was done. Subsequently, the exterior trim components were
replaced, and a new interior and soft top were installed. In 2003,
the Roadster was acquired by the current owner. To ensure the 356
was in perfect mechanical condition, an extensive service was
conducted by Munk's Motors, which included rebuilding the
carburetors, the installation of a new clutch assembly, and an
engine service.
Mechanically, it is powered by its matching numbers 1600cc Super
engine producing 75 horsepower paired with its matching 4-speed
manual transmission (Type 741) with a four-wheel drum braking
system. In October of 2022, the matching engine was rebuilt by
Frank's Foreign Car in Laguna Beach, California, including new
pistons and cylinders, exhaust valves, valve guides, main bearings,
camshaft, push rod tubes, gasket set, spark plugs, oil filter, and
rod bearings. In August of 2024, Frank's Foreign Car performed a
service changing all fluids, filters, spark plugs, ignition points,
performed a valve adjustment, replaced the valve cover gaskets, and
installed a new battery.
Complete with Certificate of Authenticity, photos of the
restoration, spare wheel, boot cover, and 29 years of service
history. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a well-documented
matching driveline Twin Grill Roadster finished in its original
color combination.
