Vehicle Description
1947 Ford Super Deluxe Woodie Wagon
The first Woodie (or Woody) Station Wagons were designed to be
utilitarian in that their primary purpose was to haul commercial
goods. Ford recognized this potential and in 1929 was the first of
the big 3 manufacturers to release their own. A lot of the Woodies
were created by coachbuilders and 3rd party companies but Ford
ended up purchasing 400,000 acres of land for the soul purpose of
making a sawmill to form the body panels for vehicles. A large
shift occurred in the mid 30's with the implementation of things
like glass windows versus side curtains and a swing out rear
windshield. Suddenly what was introduced as a vehicle for workers
was now a limited production specialty car for the luxury class.
These wood bodied wagons with their expert carpentry were now a
sign of wealth. Today Woodie's are highly collectable and it is
easy to spot why. With a largely wood construction it is amazing to
see ones still around that haven't rotted away over time so the
number still on the road is significantly less than there were
originally. This very nice 1947 Super Deluxe Woodie is in beautiful
condition. These cars truly are like a work of art. The steel
portions are painted a Dark Red Burgundy and pair perfectly with
the light and dark tones of the wood. The entire body is in great
shape and believe it or not it is the original wood paneling. That
is a testament to how well the car has been cared for its entire
life. Since new, people had the foresight to maintain and protect
that paneling for almost 80 years. The chrome and stainless is in
excellent shape throughout and has a great shine. The glass is all
good and it has a two piece windshield and the sliding rear glass.
The rear hatch opens in two sections and it has the rear mounted
spare with painted to match spare cover and Ford center cap. The
wheels are the original style and painted to match. They are fitted
with Ford center caps, chrome beauty rings and wide White wall
tires.
Powering the car is a 350 V8 with an automatic transmission and it
runs great. The motor has been nicely dressed up with finned valve
covers, matching polished wire looms, billet brackets for the
serpentine belt system, a painted early 50's Cadillac air cleaner
and also features a Mallory unilite distributor and 4 barrel carb.
The car runs cool even in the Texas heat thanks to the aftermarket
radiator and dual electric fans. It sounds great with the dual
exhaust into Hushpower by Flowmaster mufflers. This is a reliable,
road proven car that has been driven on many car cruises with no
issues. It is the type of classic you can hop in, turn the key, and
hit the road. With all the options like power steering, power
brakes, and AC/Heat the car was definitely set up to have that
original Woodie look combined with modern features so you can
travel in it comfortably.
The interior is in great condition and done in a nice Brown
leather. It has three rows of bench seating with the middle being
the shorter walkthrough seat. Up above the headliner is done in
beautiful wood paneling with a central courtesy light. The dash is
nicely painted to match the exterior and the original style trim
looks great. It now has an Autometer speedometer and an all in 1
Autometer gauge for the Amp, Temp, Oil Pressure and Fuel. The
Vintage AC/Heat controls are nicely mounted to the dash and it has
both inset adjustable vents and small adjustable under dash vents.
The column is painted, has a polished drop down and is topped off
with a very cool Vintage steering wheel with chrome horn
button.
This is one beautiful car and Woodies like this continue to be very
popular. Being one that you can actually get out and drive is a
huge plus and it would make a great addition to any collection.
This car could be yours for $91,840.00!
