Vehicle Description
This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS is a gorgeous 2 door hardtop that is
absolutely loaded with all of the best options! The Chevy Impala
initially debuted in 1958, but it was merely an option package for
the highest trim level for Chevrolet's top-of-the-line Bel Air
model. It wasn't until the following year, in 1959 that the Impala
was spun off as its own distinct model that would sit atop
Chevrolet's model hierarchy for many years to come. From the first
generation of Impalas in the late 50s through the earliest parts of
the 1960s, the Impala would undergo a nearly complete redesign
every year until Chevrolet ultimately settled on a boxier, more
modern look that required virtually all new sheet metal beginning
in 1962. Another significant development in the Impala's early
history was the optional Super Sport "SS" package. The 1961 SS
package was a dealer installed option package available on the
Impala that included special exterior emblems and spinner wheel
covers, a padded instrument cluster, desirable convenience options
such as power brakes and power steering, as well as a number of
performance-oriented upgrades including heavy duty suspension and
brakes, and a 7,000 RPM tachometer. In 1964, the Chevrolet Impala
SS was spun off as a distinct model, offered only in 2-door body
styles, and it was considered the plushest, sportiest, and all
around nicest Chevrolet that money could buy. Special side and
decklid trim, along with the Impala's famous triple taillights are
among the highlights for the exterior of the 1964 Impala SS.
Inside, the '64 Impala SS was both sporty and extremely plush. The
1964 Impala SS came equipped with bucket seats trimmed in upgraded
leather grained vinyl upholstery along with a locking center
console and special SS badging on the console as well as the door
panels. Interestingly, the Impala, and specifically the 1964
Impala, have been highly romanticized in popular culture due in
part to it being a popular choice among hot-rodders in the later
60s and 70s, and their popularity has continued into the 80s, 90s,
through today because of their connection to modern low-rider
culture. Countless rap and hip hop songs tout the '64 Impala as
perhaps the quintessential low-rider. Countless famous rappers,
including Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, have rapped about "rollin' in
[their] 6-4s" and the '64 Impalas remain a favorite for low-riders
today due to their stylish looks and robust construction. Under the
hood on this particular '64 Impala SS is a 327 cubic inch V8 engine
fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have
produced at least 250 horsepower when new. The 327 V8 power plant
is backed by a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this Chevy
Impala an absolute blast to drive. Exhaust exits the small block
Chevy engine via a dual exhaust setup that generates a terrific
throaty sound out of the rear tailpipes. This SS Impala is
absolutely loaded with options! With power steering, squeezing in
and out of a tight parking space at the local car show or drive-in
is a total breeze and the overall driving experience is much
improved. Power brakes is another welcome addition on any classic
car since it makes bringing this nearly 3,000 pound cruiser to a
complete stop much easier. Riding on 215/50ZR17 radial tires up
front and 235/50ZR17 radials in the rear, all of which are mounted
on beautiful chrome wheels, this 1964 Chevy Impala has a fantastic
look whether you're showing off this beauty at a car show or you're
cruising down the road. The exterior of this Impala has been
correctly refinished in beautiful Ermine White paint that completes
the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1964 Chevrolet
Impala SS is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats and rear
bench seat have been correctly reupholstered in Red vinyl. The
matching red carpeting, red padded dash, color-matched red door
panels, center console, and steering wheel are all in wonderful
condition as well and all retain a nice stock appearance. You will
be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days since this '64
Impala SS is equipped with factory Air Conditioning, something that
is seldom seen but greatly appreciated today. The instrument
cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, fuel gauge, and
clock, as well as indicator lights for the AC charging, oil
pressure, and engine temperature. The dash is finished off with an
upgraded AM/FM retro-style radio, slide-out ashtray, a locking
glovebox, and various other controls. Whether you're buying your
first classic car or you're adding to an existing collection of
classics, this 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS would make an excellent
choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at 763-428-7337!
