Vehicle Description
1986 Chevrolet K-10 Silverado Long Bed Pickup
"Full size Chevy 4x4's dig in and go. Climb hills that stretch
toward the heavens. Make tracks long after lesser trucks drop out.
Bring along a load of gear a smaller truck just can't handle. In a
gutsy Chevy 4-wheeler, you can really explore the adventure of the
great outdoors. So break out of the daily dullness and discover new
frontiers!" From the 1986 Chevy full size truck brochure.
For consignment, a 1986 Chevrolet K-10 Silverado long bed pickup
with a title verified 72,985 actual miles, a 3 owner survivor with
power windows and power locks, new brakes, belts, and hoses. Our
consignor says that this was an actual farm truck with some period
additions needed at the time that make it a versatile, well
equipped truck that can certainly be returned to work, but also
serves as a classic relic of a once common vehicle.
Exterior
Two tone Nevada Gold over Black give this truck a look synonymous
with the trend of the time, really the tail end of the two tone
phase which includes the sandwich effect with black in part of the
cab. The square body Chevy is true to its name with a perfectly
flat fascia and grille, stacked square headlights and a straight
bumper with long, vertical bumper guards. Below that, a set of fog
lights and tow hooks add utilitarian value to the truck. Mounted on
the black roof is a visor to keep the sun at bay when you're
inspecting your crops, and in the bed is a diamond plate toolbox
and added bedrails to tie down cargo, and this bed shows evidence
of carrying some loads. A roll pan on the square tail replaces a
bumper and represents the triple band of color that is gold
followed by the stainless dress plate, then the black roller. Other
than some general patina, a few chips, and some dry seals, the
exterior is in great shape.
Interior
The Silverado gets an upgraded interior with a multi dimensional
door panel with velour inserts on a plastic base over a carpeted
kick panel, all in nice shape with a touch of patina. Hot dog! A
cloth bench seat remains in place which means you can keep your
loved one close, whether they are the two legged or the four legged
variety. The seat is in great shape and so is the steering wheel
with stitched inserts, fronting a flat, gray instrument cluster
with canted sides for the driver. Basic gauges wear orange needles
on black backgrounds and an AM/FM/Cassette player is to our right
along with climate control and a vent. The lower dash takes on the
body color, contrasting with the black top and keeping a consistent
color design with the exterior. It's a column shift truck but the
range selector is mounted on the floor surrounded by medium pile
black carpet and carpeted mats in good condition and the headliner
above is also nice. Per our consignor, the power windows have new
regulators.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a driver quality 305ci V8, carbureted with a
4-barrel, and matched with a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission
sending power to the 10 bolt axle in the back, and splitting to the
10 bolt diff in front. Power brakes are on board for the task with
new discs in front and drums in the back. The bay shows normal wear
and surface rust but is otherwise clean. Per our consignor, the A/C
was converted to R-134A.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath with some usage patina. It looks like it may have
been undercoated at some point and presents with uniform flat black
coverage. The single exhaust flows into a stock style muffler then
exits via a tailpipe that goes sideways from the back. Leaf springs
make up the suspension front and rear.
Drive-Ability
The half ton starts right up with a prime of the carb and sets off
on our test loop on its 15-inch Chevrolet Sport wheels and LT rated
all terrain tires. The 305 puts out a bit of grunt and shifts are
smooth, and the ride is comfortable and quiet. This rugged 4x4
performs well including all of the functions in and around the
truck. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
They say there's nothing quite like a square body and a 4x4 version
is even better! What once were commonplace are now sought after
classics and while the 80's might seem like that long ago, step
into a 2024 truck and the advancement in technology is stark. But
if you're like us, you're "old school" and like the good ol' analog
operation of a truck without the gizmos and gadgets to get in the
way. Just you, your dog, a transfer case, and all terrain tires.
What more could you want? This one has your name written all over
it!
