1975 Ford Gran Torino with approximately 142,650 miles. The “Starsky & Hutch” replica creation was done by the previous owner; an older restoration but still in very good condition, I have owned the car for the last 20 years and have put on a little over 10,000 miles on it. I have driven it confidently including on several longer trips from Connecticut to the Carlisle Ford Nationals in Pennsylvania.
Originally a black car, the previous owner created this Starsky & Hutch TV car replica mainly using the season 3 episode “Partners” as a guide, especially for the white stripe. The paint is the correct 2b Red with the Wimbledon White stripe. Overall, the finish is shiny and in very good condition with only a few minor imperfections. You will see in the pictures that there is some rust starting in the lower back corners of both the driver and passenger door. This car has the chrome and black body side molding however someone had put body color sport sideview mirrors on it. I replaced the color mirrors with the correct chrome mirrors but I will also include the red mirrors should you choose to swap them out. The wheels are vintage American Racing 5-slot rims with BF Goodrich T/A Radial 225/70R14 front and 275/60R15 rear. The rear shocks are newer Gabriel Hi-Jackers air shocks with the valve accessible in the trunk. The combination of the staggered size tires and air shocks gives the car and nice “raked” stance.
The engine is a 351 Windsor with a Carter AFB Competiton 4-barrel & Edelbrock Intake and has Cobra valve covers. The dual exhaust gives the engine a nice deep V-8 growl. All this work done by a previous owner.
It has a correct Ford AM/FM 8-Track although it is not hooked up and I do not know if it works (David Soul 8-Track Tape included!). I added the TV show correct Motorola Micor Police Radio (non-working, head unit only). Behind that I have hidden a Kenwood radio with remote control connected to newer 6x9” speakers in the rear deck lid and 5” speaker in the doors. The previous owner took out the bench seat and put in Gran Torino bucket seats, which I had rebuilt with new springs & support as well as custom reupholstered to match the factory pattern of the rear seats. The interior is in nice condition, with no cracks in the dash pad.
In the trunk, the deck lid is signed by Antonio Fargas “Huggy Bear” and Paul Michael Glaser “Starsky”. In 2007 at the Carlisle All Ford Nationals, Antonio chose this car out of the 13 there as his favorite S&H Torino.
Extras included:
Red Sport Mirrors, hard to find NOS Right and Left rear taillight lenses, Bubble Rooftop magnetic Police Light, 6-piece Ford Factory Service Manual (5 volume plus supplement), four extra American Racing center caps, Antonio Fargas Celebrity Choice award, Reproduction embossed California 537-ONN license plate, Starsky & Hutch posters.
