Vehicle Description
1990 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback
The third generation Mustang is frequently referred to as the
Foxbody Mustang since it used the new Fox platform. Foxbody
Mustangs were produced between 1979 and 1993, the longest
generation of Mustangs to date, though there were several
significant body updates made throughout this generation. Though
the Foxbody Mustangs were popular at their release, they've only
gained popularity in the years since then. The Foxbody has gained a
reputation as a modders dream, and with the right modifications
this Fox can fly.
Here at Classic Auto Mall we await with worms on our breath, (uhh
baited breath actually!), to see what will come through the door
next. Well every now and again we get a car that is a jaw
dropper... so now we give you on consignment, and could be yours, a
1992 Fox bodied Mustang GT hatchback, a show winner and 1 of 905
built this year in Wild Strawberry Metallic. Purchased by our
consignor in 2002 and shown consistently since, this multi-time
award winner comes to us with some performance modifications,
aesthetic upgrades, 102,188 title verified original miles, and all
buttoned up, well maintained, and simply marvelous to behold. Just
like new, way back from 1992! Read ON!
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Correct Strawberry Red Metallic adorns this car and in code
language this translates to EL. Unlike earlier years of the
aero-fox genre, the strawberry covers all the body sections as well
as the ground effects. The paint is excellent and covers straight
steel sculpted panels which make up this iconic iteration of the
Fox bodied Mustang. It does not get any better than this with
excellent minded gaps, perfectly straight rust-free panels, ultra
clear plastic Projector headlights and 1993 Cobra style tail
lights, excellent lower body and rocker flanges, and a pristine pop
up sunroof top and sloping rear hatchback complete with an
aerodynamic rear wing. Factory badging denotes the 5.0 liter mill
that sleeps below the Cervini cowl induction hood...shhhhhhhh,
you'll awaken the beast! Black accents with door handles and window
surround trimmings contrast to the Strawberry and show off the car
as it should. 1993 Cobra wraparound rear tail lighting is perfectly
placed above the integrated body matching bumper and up front wesee
the addition of a Cervini's Stalker front bumper. 17-inch chrome
laden Cobra R style wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in
staggered width high performance radials.
Interior
The mid 1980's brought us some wild stuff, but then there were
highlights like the interior of this classic sly Fox with door
panels in black with black control panels, black accent panels and
black door handles and switches. This continues for the seating
with 1998 Cobra high back buckets, sporting tuck and roll inserts
and smooth racing style wrap around bolsters. These seats have
power lumbar controls so you can get it just right baby bear but do
show with some age wear and wrinkling of the black leather. A
complimentary light gray console races past toward the dash and has
a non broken ashtray door and a black accenting surround for the
tall T-handle shifter. On the dash we have a mixture of lower
titanium dash front panels which match up to the door panel line,
and above padded black dash top. Extensive use of the mid 1980's
square and rectangle design is used for the dash, with all controls
and gauges in either of these simple geometric forms. All laid out
exactly the way it left the factory, even down to the
AM/FM/Cassette stereo. The dash is pristine, as are the carpets
which float all seats in a perfect sea of black thick pile comfort.
Black side panels on the rear frame a rear 2 plus 2 bench which is
shoehorned into the back of the car, but is comfortable once you
get there and it can also be folded down to haul your trophy home
from the next car show.
Drivetrain
An original 5.0 Liter V8 with EFI is onboard to feed this mill, and
we are ready to take on some serious stuff. The mill has a
consignor-stated 10-1 compression ratio, a Comp Cams roller cam,
roller rockers atop the Strike Force aluminum cylinder heads, and a
Trick Flow Track Heat intake manifold with 70mm throttle body
working with a BBK cold air intake. Providing the fuel end of
things are 24lb/hr fuel injectors and a Bullitt mass air meter. An
AOD 4-speed automatic transmission is installed on the back, and
this pushes power back to a Ford 8.8-inch 4.10 geared rear axle
featuring TracLoc. All in all just super duper condition under this
hood.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust on the usual suspects, but certainly
unremarkable and mostly straight unadulterated gray structurally
sound steel unibody, floor pans and rockers. A like newX-pipe
equipped exhaust system snakes its way rearward from the shorty
headers and features FlowMaster mufflers sans catalytic converters.
Independent coil springs for the front suspension, and 4 link with
coil springs for the rear, along with power disc brakes upfront and
power drums for the rear are seen underneath in this clean
environment.
Drive-Ability
It's not every day one gets the opportunity to drive a show winner
car like this so my decoder/test driver/copy editor cohort and I
both took the opportunity and we found a quick starter, smooth
runner, and a test track ace with plenty of power, great handling,
and good brakes which stopped the car in a straight line. It also
was an excellent cruiser and produced a nice melodious sound with
the exhaust. All controls were working perfectly, with only the
checkengine light on due to the removed converters. The buckets
grab you in a tasteful way, and everything is within easy reach
while driving. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Minty is a word oft seen on eBay and is certainly apropos here. She
is all here in her 1992 glory, and ready to have her key turned and
her tires lit up. Lots of love left in this one, and it's a classic
Fox bodied Mustang which are ever increasing in value right at this
moment. Hop in this MCA Gold and multiple time car show award
winner quick before it goes to someone else.
