"Exceptional" is one word to keep in mind when considering this
true Chevelle SS (verified by VIN)! Everything about this build
goes above and beyond. The fit and finish are magical, and it has a
great list of factory features too. From the correct 396 engine, to
the slick paint job, to the virtually new interior, and the totally
restored underbody, there are absolutely no disappointments
anywhere!
EXTERIOR: Factory color! It's repainted with great detail in the
original Regal Red color and has a very smooth, shiny, and slick
finish. The reflection is like a mirror. Looking down the side of
the body it's extremely straight with smooth contours and crisp
lines. Every single panel has been aligned square and flush with
gaps that are extremely consistent and spot on. All the glass is
new, plus the rubber seals and fuzzy strips were replaced. The
front grille appears to be an excellent original. The bumpers were
rechromed. The remaining trim is all nice and straight with a
lustrous shine. I like the rear mounted antenna! This original SS
car has all the correct emblems. It's sitting real pretty on a set
of radial BFGoodrich Redline tires. The rims are painted and have a
nice set of deluxe mag hubcaps which is correct for 1966.
INTERIOR: Inside the jamb is nicely painted body color. The
weatherstrips and sill plates were both replaced. The door panels,
armrests, levers, headliner, rear shelf, rear view mirror, dash
pad, steering column, steering wheel, glovebox liner, shifter, and
carpeting all look like new. The radio, climate controls, center
console, gauges, and seatbelts all look like excellent originals.
The seats front and back have all been reupholstered. Even the dome
light is working. Gotta love the "knee knocker" tachometer!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Being equipped with the correct 1966 396-325 hp
engine makes this car even more desirable. It is fairly stock
looking at a glance. Air conditioning, power steering and power
brakes are all much appreciated options. The squirters and horns
are both hooked up. The battery is properly secured. The original
trim tag is still in place as well. The underside of the hood is
complete with insulation. The fender wells and firewall are neatly
painted satin black. This is a "loaded" engine compartment!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and jamb are nicely painted
body color. The weatherstrip was replaced. Inside the pan metal is
all solid and rust free with a neatly applied spatter finish paint.
It's also equipped with a full size spare tire, jack assembly, lug
wrench, and rubber mat.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath this car is exceptionally clean. I'm really
impressed with the floors; they are all smooth metal with no rust
and are painted a nice satin black. The front end steering and
suspension looks fresh. Out back the bushings, springs and shocks
also look fresh. It has a nicely installed dual exhaust system.
Factory style fuel system was replaced including the tank. The
brakes have been inspected, and the e-brake is hooked up. Looking
up at the engine it's clean Chevy Orange with the proper starter.
The flywheel cover is correct as well. The Powerglide automatic
transmission also looks recently serviced. A 12 bolt rear end with
3.73 gears puts the power to the pavement. What an impressive
undercarriage!
SERVICE: Our shop manager thoroughly inspected this car and we
adjusted the timing, repaired the carburetor, repaired the backup
lights, repaired the turn signals, repaired the A/C, repaired the
horn, repaired the driver's seat, adjusted the exhaust, tightened
the suspension, and replaced the voltage regulator.
This is a real SS 396 car that has received a detailed ground up
restoration. The quality of the body and paint work are top notch!
This one has absolutely everything going for it! Purely
exquisite!
