With the advancements in technology made in the recent years,
electric vehicles are becoming more prominent, not only in the
commuter car market, but also in the collector and enthusiast car
markets. With their instant torque delivery, great range and lack
of a need for traditional fossil fuel, it is easy to see why many
consumers and enthusiasts are so enamored by these new electric
vehicles. With the growing popularity of hybrid and electric
vehicles (EV's) in the automotive market, it is always interesting
to look back at some of the earlier examples of electric powered
vehicles. That is exactly what we have here in this 1959
Taylor-Dunn Trident R. Taylor-Dunn originally entered the
transportation market with their PG Taylorcar golf-cart in 1955 and
shortly after released the Trident R as a neighborhood electric
vehicle (NEV) in 1959. It is believed that roughly 50 of these
Trident R's are still in existence today. This 1959 Taylor-Dunn
Trident R is a very original example of these early NEV's. The
exterior fiberglass is in excellent condition throughout and is
finished nicely in its Yellow and White exterior paint. The Yellow
and White exterior is complimented nicely by it's Blue painted top,
factory "Trident" emblem, reproduction "Taylor-Dunn" decals and
factory steel wheels fitted with "baby moon" hubcaps in the rear.
The Trident's White vinyl interior is in very good condition. The
Taylor-Dunn Trident R could be optioned with either a swing-arm
style steering mechanism (common on early golf carts) or a
traditional steering wheel. This Trident R is one of the few models
to receive the tradition style steering wheel. Propelling this
great 1959 Trident R is a 1 horsepower 24V electric motor powered
by four 6-volt batteries. This Trident R runs and drives very well
and has no problem pulling itself down the road. The Trident R is a
road legal NEV (research your local regulations regarding NEV and
Low Speed Vehicles before purchasing). So it is equipped with
functioning horn, headlights, brake lights, turn signals and
running lights. Included with the sale of this Trident R is a
battery charger, factory electrical diagrams and a collection of
spare components including extra drive chain. If you are in the
market for a very rare and eye-catching piece of EV history that
runs and drives like it should and would be an instant hit at any
local cruise in or car show, then you will want to take a very
close look at this 1959 Taylor-Dunn Trident R.
