Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to offer you this 1980 Chevrolet
Corvette L-82 - an affordable classic that you can hop in and start
enjoying today! Though it's not a perfect car, it still looks cool,
it's loaded up with a bunch of great features options, and it is a
blast to drive! 1980 was the last year for the higher horsepower
L-82 engine (230hp) and the first year for restyled front and rear
bumper covers with integrated dynamic spoilers that resulted in a
significant reduction in drag and increased radiator airflow. We
feel confident that this Corvette was repainted at some point in
its life, but it looks like that was many years ago. The paint is
fair driver quality, with chips, scratches, imperfections, and
significant fading of the front and rear bumper covers. Still, it
looks good from 10 ft. away and it just looks like a cool yellow C3
Corvette when it's zipping down the road. There are only five
badges on an '80 Corvette - colorful cross-flags on both the nose
cone and the gas fill, L-82s on both fenders and "CORVETTE" across
the rear. The cross-flags badges are now devoid of any colors and
are just silver, the L-82 badges look good, and the rear "CORVETTE"
is starting to show some age. The side view of this "Vette" is
curvaceous, stylish, and sporty - it's this head-turning look that
made C3s such a great seller for Chevy. There are many elements
that grab the eye - swooping fenders with black louvered side
vents, tinted glass T-tops, dual color-keyed sport mirrors, bright
door handles, black rocker covers with bright upper edge, fixed
"fast-back" style rear window glass with defogger, and iconic
flip-up headlights (that work as they should). The whole appearance
is made all the cooler thanks to a set of stock aluminum YJ8 wheels
wrapped in newer white letter Cooper Cobra Radial GT tires. Around
the back, you'll find a centered gas fill ahead of the rear
spoiler, a power antenna (inop.), signature round taillights, dual
exhaust exits, and a spare tire mounted underneath the rear
end.
Under the forward-lifting hood is a very stock-looking engine bay
with a 350ci V-8 at the center. We believe that the engine is
original to the car and it's topped with a stock intake, stock
finned black valve covers (correct for an L-82, they'd be blue and
finless on an L-48), a 4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome-topped air
cleaner. A quick look around reveals power steering and factory
R-12 A/C (blows cold!). The V-8 is mated to a 3-speed automatic
transmission that shifts smoothly as it sends power to the rear
with 3.07:1 factory gears. Stopping power is provided by 4-wheel
power disc brakes with newer calipers up front.
Open the driver's door to find a largely original OEM interior
dressed in black. The door panels are in good condition and both
feature mirror toggles and map pockets. The black leather bucket
seats appear original and show cracking, creasing, and some seam
tearing - especially on the driver's side. A stock factory console
separates the seats and offers an emergency brake, power window
controls, a shifter for the automatic transmission, an ashtray, and
HVAC controls that offer cold A/C and hot heat with a decent fan.
The console moves up onto the dash with an aftermarket Kenwood
AM/FM/Cassette stereo that plays through newer speakers in the dash
and in the rear compartment. Above the stereo are working gauges
for temp, fuel, oil, and battery and an analog clock (inop.). Ahead
of the driver, a leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel on a tilt
telescopic column frames an 85mph speedometer and a tachometer
(inop.). The odometer currently reads 45,665 miles and the title
claims that to be the actual mileage. Also on the column is a stalk
for the turn signals that is also designed to operate the cruise
control, though we have not tested that function. To the left of
the speedometer are controls for the working 2-speed wipers and the
flip-up headlights. The black dashboard is crack and warp-free.
Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox that contains quite a few 80s
cassette tapes racked in provided slots. Behind the seats is a
cargo area where you'll find a retractable cargo cover, tie-downs
for T-top storage, a battery storage compartment, a storage
compartment full of more cassettes, and a set of black carpeted
floor mats that match the car carpet. Included with this car are an
original owner's manual and a folder with service receipts dating
back to 2019.
If you're getting started out in the classic car hobby or you're
just looking for a fun weekend car to tear around in, then take a
good look at this 1980 Corvette - it packs a lot of bang for the
buck! A bit of faded paint and a few blemishes feel like minor
demerits as you cruise down the road in style with the t-tops off,
the A/C blowing, and the stereo playing your favorite tunes.
Whether you restore it or just drive it as it is, this Corvette is
a great deal for the money and it's sure to put a smile on your
face every time you take it for a spin! Give our friendly staff a
call and don't let this one get away!
