For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in Valencia, Spain

Vehicle Description

This Camaro has a known ownership history.  It started with Jim Stubbings, a 1st Generation Camaro dealer that was responsible for adding on all of the factory options. Jim is legendary in the Camaro world and still has an active business in Detroit today.

It then went on to its next owner, a muscle car dealer in Washington DC who used the car as his daily driver. Tony had the engine rebuilt by Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties in Portland MI when the car had about 80,000 miles on it.

Tony enjoyed the car for several more years adding about 25,000 (the odometer turns over at 99,999) miles on the rebuilt engine before enlisting it to RK Motors to consign the car for him.

RK Motors listed the car and for reasons unknown (perhaps because they were not aware that there is a way to determine if the cross ram is an original GM cross ram or a reproduction and it is better to err on the side of doubt than certainty) they say that the cross ram is a GM licensed reproduction aluminum Winter cross ram intake on top of its original, numbers-matching code DZ 302 V8.

It is not a reproduction GM cross ram although it is very difficult to tell the difference. An original, early casting GM cross ram has the snowflake stamp on the outer end of the runner. If the snowflake is stamped up near the carb mount it is most likely a late 80's or newer casting.  This cross ram has the authentic correct snowflake stamp on the intake manifold.

In the attached picture of the intake manifold that comes with the car, zoom in and you can see the snowflake stamp on the outer end of the runner.  This is an original GM cross ram intake manifold.

An original cross ram intake manifold and carb set up is currently on Jim Stubbings site where you can see the snowflake stamp in the same place as our car.  By the way his price for this set up is $25,000.00 US:  Original Z28 snowflake stamp  I have ours priced at 15,000.00 US.

RK Motors also called the engine rebuild and the seats being reupholstered a restoration but it was not and never was a full restoration on the car.  The seats are original and they have been reupholstered. The engine has been rebuilt.  There is no indication from anyone that I interviewed that was involved with this car that it had a full restoration.  As a matter of fact the paint, in excellent condition, is the original paint to the car.

In 2007 the car found a new owner in Spain.  This owner, now 80, had his personal mechanic remove the original dual four-barrel carb and aluminum cross ram and installed the Edelbrock electrónic carbs, new shocks, brakes, and air conditioning which included the addition of lighter aluminum radiator.  He also added another 2,000 miles on the odometer which now reads 16,037.

The car still maintains all of the options it left RK Motors with - the AC cooling system can be removed, the cross ram and carbs reinstalled and the car brought back to being a highly optioned 1969 Camaro Z28.

As it stands this Z/28 is still a highly optioned car:
